This is the 198215th Edition, in two halves, with the Macropaedia and the Micropaedia. First published in 1768, the publisher is the oldest English-language encyclopedia still in print. Two Scottish men, a printer/bookseller (Colin Macfarquhar) and an engraver (Andrew Bell) first compiled a dictionary of arts and sciences during the Scottish Enlightenment. Scotland was the most literate nation in Europe, with a literacy of 75%. By 2010, the Britannica employed 100 full-time editors and more than 4000 contributors. ( )
