Were present from their respective senatorial Districts, as follows: A quorum being present, the president requested Abel Rathbone Messrs. Deguire, Byrd, Lee, Walsh, McDaniel, Rawlins, Gorham, Montgomery, and Jones, severally presented their credentials, were qualified and took their seats. On motion of Mr. Byrd, Messrs. Hiram H. Baber, M. V. Harrison, and Joseph B. Wells, were severally nominated, and on the first ballot, there appeared, For Mr. Baber-Messrs. D. Jones, McClelland, and Williams. For Mr. Harrison— Messrs. Deguire, Goforth, Lee, McDaniel, Rawlins, Robison, and Valle. For Mr. Wells—Messrs. Ashby, Byrd, Gorham, Smith, Walsh and Weaver. Neither candidate having a majority, the Senate proceeded to a second ballot, when there appeared, For Mr. Baber-Messrs. D. Jones, M'Clelland and Williams. |
