private business and social intercourse with each other.

In order to explain the exact scope of this outline, it may not be out of place here to say that every legal ́system is divisible into three branches-the Public Law, the Private Law, and the Adjective Law. The province of each of these branches is defined at page 90. It is with the public branch only of our system that this work is concerned, except in so far as the matter of Private and Adjective Law has been treated of in the first two Chapters. These Chapters are intended to give that general information concerning Law as a Science, without which it is impossible for the reader to appreciate the characteristic features of any particular system.
