PSALM CXXXIII.

This Pfalm recommends brotherly affection. Dathius thinks it might have been composed by David, when after the civil wars in which the people had been involved for eight years after the death of Saul, all the tribes fubmitted themfelves to his authority, 2 Sam. v. 1 Chron. xi. It is also very applicable to the state of the Jews after their return from Baby. lon, when they were commended for their concord and mutual affection. Nehem. viii.

1. BEHOLD how good and pleasant a thing it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

2. It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, upon Aaron's beard, that went down to the collar of his garments.

3. Like the dew of Hermon that defcends upon the parched mountains: for upon it has the Lord ordained bleffing and happiness for ever.

PSALM CXXXIV.

This is a joyful acclamation to the priests and Levites, exhorting them to the due performance of their duty. It was fung perhaps at the evening facrifice. From the change of number in the perfons it appears to have been dramatical.

1. BEHOLD, blefs ye the Lord, all ye fervants of the Lord, who by night stand in the house of the Lord.

2. Lift up your hands in the fanctuary, and blefs the Lord.

3. The Lord that made heaven and earth, blefs thee out of Zion.

PSALM CXXXV.

This is a thanksgiving Pfalm which recounts feveral of the great works of the Lord, efpecially towards the Jewish people, whom it excites to ftedfaftnefs in their religion, and to contempt of idols and idolaters.

1. PRAISE ye the Lord, praise ye the name of the Lord, praise him O ye fervants of the Lord.

2. Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.

3. Praise ye the Lord, for the Lord is good; fing praises unto his name, for it is pleasant.

4. For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Ifrael for his own poffeffion.

5. Surely I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

6. Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the fea, and in all deep places.

7. He lifteth the vapours every where from the earth, he maketh the lightning with the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.

8. Who fmote the first born in Egypt, both men and beast.

9. Who fent figns and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, upon Pharoah, and upon all his fervants.

10. Who fmote great nations, and flew mighty kings.

II. Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bafhan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan;

12. And gave their land for an inheritance, an inheritance unto Ifrael his people.

13. Thy name, O Lord, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O Lord, from one generation to another.

14. For the Lord will give fentence in favour of

his people, and he will be moved with mercy for his fervants.

15. The idols of the heathen are but filver and gold, the work of men's hands.

16. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they fee not.

17. They have ears, and yet they hear not, neither is there any breath in their mouths.

18. They that make them, are like unto them; fo is every one that putteth his trust in them.

19. Praise the Lord, O house of Ifrael; praise the Lord, O houfe of Aaron.

20. Praise the Lord, O houfe of Levi; ye that fear the Lord, praise the Lord.
