Shall cause their rejection
From glory and grace.
Tho' God may delay
To shew us his light,
And heaviness may
Endure for a night;
Yet joy in the morning
Shall surely abound;
No shadow of turning
In Jesus is found.

Then tune ev'ry string
'lo Jesus's name;
With angels we sing
The song of the Lamb.
Thee ev'ry believer
Shall joyfully praise,
The bountiful giver

Of glory and grace.

140.

Praise to Christ.

JOIN, ye redeemed heirs of grace,
In a new song of lofty praise;
Jesus is worthy to receive

The utmost glories ye can give.
Worthy, thou dear atoning Lamb,
From ev'ry kindred, tongue, and name,
Thou hast redeem'd us by thy blood,
And made us kings, and priests to God.
Bless'd be thy name, for ever bless'd,
Of wisdom, pow'r, and strength possess'd;
Honour and might, and glory too,
We give thee, as thine endless due.

More than ten thousand thousand tongues,
With thousand thousands join'd in songs,
With all their pow'rs their God to own,
And the dear Lamb that fills the throne.
Unnumber'd hosts thy glories sing,
They hail thee as their Lord and King;
Not one bright crown is worn above
But what is own'd a gift of love.
Elders, and saints, and angels join
In works so wondrous and divine;
Their glories at thy footstool lay,
And praise thee thro' an endless day.

141.

Prayer to Christ.

JESUS, my Lord, attend

Thy feeble creature's cry,

And shew thyself the sinner's friend,
And set me up on high;
From hell's oppressive pow'r
My struggling soul release;
And to thy Father's grace restore,
And to thy perfect peace.
Thy blood and righteousness
I make my only plea;

My present and eternal peace

Are both deriv'd from thee.
Rivers of life divine

From thee, their fountain, flow;
And all who know that love of thine,
The joy of angels know.

Come then, impute, impart
To me thy righteousness,
And let me taste how good thou art,
How full of truth and grace:
That thou canst here forgive
Grant me to testify.
And justified by faith to live,
And in that faith to die.

142. Praise for redeeming Love.
LEL us love, and sing, and wonder,
Let us praise the Saviour's name!
He has hush'd the law's loud thunder,
He has quench'd mount Sinai's flame:
He has wash'd us with his blood,
He has brought us nigh to God.
Let us love the Lord who bought us,
Pity'd us when enemies,

Call'd us by his grace, and taught us,
Gave us ears, and gave us eyes:
He has wash'd us with his blood,
He presents our souls to God.
Let us sing, tho' fierce temptations
Threaten hard to bear us down!
For the Lord, our strong salvation,
Holds in view the conqu'r
'ror's crown:
He that wash'd us with his blood
Soon will bring us home to God.
Let us wonder, grace and justice
Join, and point to mercy's store;

When thro' grace in Christ our trust is,
Justice smiles, and asks no more:
He who wash'd us with his blood
Has secur'd our way to God.
Let us praise and join the chorus
Of the saints enthron'd on high;
Here they trusted him before us,
Now their praises fill the sky:

• Thou hast wash'd us with thy blood,
Thou art worthy, Lamb of God!'

Hark! the name of Jesus sounded
Loud from golden harps above!
Lord, we blush, and are confounded,
Faint our praises, cold our love!
Wash our souls and songs with blood,
For by thee we come to God.

143. Praise to Christ.

LET earth and heav'n agree,
Angels and men be join'd
To celebrate with me

The Saviour of mankind:

T'adore the all-atoning Lamb,
And bless the sound of Jesu's name.

Jesus! transporting sound!
The joy of earth and heav'n,

No other help is found,

No other name is giv'n,

By which we can salvation have

But Jesus came the world to save.

Jesus! harmonious name!

It charms the hosts above!
They evermore proclaim,

And wonder at his love!

'Tis all their happiness to gaze,
'Tis heav'n to see our Jesu's face.
His name the sinner hears,
And is from sin set free,
"Tis music in his ears,
'Tis life and victory :
New songs do now his lips employ,
And dances his glad heart for joy!

144. Crown him.

ALL-HAIL the power of Jesu's name!
Let angels prostrate fall :
Bring forth the royal diadem,

And crown him Lord of all.

Crown him, ye martyrs of our God,
Who from his altar call;
Extol the stem of Jesse's rod,
And crown him Lord of all.

Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,
A remnant weak and small,
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
And crown him Lord of all.

Babes, men,

and sires, who know his love, Who feel your sin and thrall, Now joy with all the hosts above, And crown him Lord of all.
