\ 47. Connexion between the subject of this chapter and the
doctrine of Creation and Providence.
As the doctrine of the creation and providence of God in general, has been discussed in the preceding chapter; the consideration of the origin and divine government of the human family would now naturally succeed, as a specific part of that doctrine. But, as among the rational creatures of the universe, for whose sake God created and governs the world, there are some of a rank superior to that of man ( 48), creatures who sustain certain relations to the human family, of whose instrumentality God avails himself in his providential guidance of the destinies of men, and with whom we expect in a future world to be brought into closer connexion; it is proper that the consid eration of these should previously engage our attention.
