pofe, fhall and may form and prepare laws, ftatutes and ordinances, fit and neceffary for and concerning the government of the faid colony, and not repugnant to the laws and ftatutes of England; and the fame fhall and may prefent under their common feel to us, our heirs and fucceffors, in our or their privy-council, for our or their approbation or difallowance; and the faid laws, ftatutes and ordinances, being approved by us, our heirs and fucceffors, in our or their privy-council, fhall from thenceforth be in full force and virtue, within our faid province of Georgia. And forafmuch as the good and profperous fuccefs of the faid colony cannot, but chiefly depend, next under the bleffing of God, and the fupport of our royal authority, upon the provident and good direction of the whole enterprize, and that it will be too great a burthen upon all the members of the faid corporation to be convened fo often as may be requifite to hold meetings for the fettling, fupporting, ordering, and maintaining fuch colony; therefore we do will, ordain, and establish, that the faid common council, for the time being, of the faid corporation, being affembled for that purpose, or the major part of them, fhall, from time to time, and at all times hereafter, have full power and authority to difpofe of, expend, and apply all the monies and effects belonging to the faid corporation, in fuch manner and ways, and in fuch expences as they fhall think beft to conduce to the carrying on and effecting the good purposes herein mentioned and intended; and alfo fhall have full power, in the name and on the account of the said corporation, and with and under their common feal, to enter into any covenants and contracts for carrying on and effecting the purposes aforefaid. our further will and pleasure is, that the faid common council for the time being, or the major part of fuch of the faid common council, which fhall be prefent and affembled for that purpose, from time to time, and at all times hereafter, fhall and may nominate, conftitute, and appoint, a treasurer or treasurers, fecretary or fecretaries, and fuch other officers, minifters, and fervants of the faid corporation, as to them, or the major part of fuch of them as fhall be prefent, fhall feem proper or requifite for the good management of their affairs, and at their will and pleasure to difplace, remove, and put qut fuch treasurer or treasurers, fecretary or secretaries, and all fuch other officers, minifters, or fervants, as often as they fhall think fit fo to do, and others in the room, office, place, or ftead of him or them fo difplaced, removed, or put out, to nominate, conftitute, and appoint; and fhall and may determine

determine and appoint fuch reasonable falaries, perquifites, or other rewards, for the labour or fervices of fuch officers, fervants and perfons, as to the faid common council shall leem meet; and all fuch officers fhall, before they act in their respective offices, take an oath, to be to them adminiftered by the chairman for the time being of the faid common council of the faid corporation, who is hereby authorized to adminifter the fame, for the faithful and due execution of their respective offices and places. And our will and pleasure is, that all and every perfon and perfons, who shall from time to time be chofen or appointed treasurer or treafurers, fecretary or fecretaries of the faid corporation, in manner herein before directed, fhall, during fuch time as they fhall ferve in the faid offices refpectively, be incapable of being a member of the faid corporation. And we do further, of our special grace, certain knowledge, and mere motion, for us, our heirs and fucceffors, grant by these prefents to the said corporation, and their fucceffors, that it fhall be lawful for them, and their officers or agents, at all times hereafter, to tranfport and convey out of our realm of Great Britain, or any other our dominions, into the faid province of Georgia, to be there fettled, all fuch and fo many of our loving fubjects, or any foreigners that are willing to become our fubjects, and live under our allegiance in the faid colony, as fhall willingly go to inhabit and refide there, with fufficient fhipping, armour, weapons, ordnance, munition, powder, fhot, victuals, and fuch merchandize or wares as are efteemed by the wild people in thofe parts, cloathing, implements, furniture, cattle, horfes, mares, and all other things neceffary for the faid colony, and for their use and defence, and trade with the people there, and in paffing and returning to and from the fame. Provided alfo, that no greater quantity of the faid perfon may land be granted either entirely, or in parcels, to, or to the than 500 ufe of, or in truft for, any one perfon, thanfive hundred acres; and that all grants made contrary to the true intent and meaning hereof fhall be abfolutely null and void.
