through our LORD and SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

CONCLUDING COLLECT.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting GOD, Who dost govern all things in heaven and earth; Mercifully hear the supplications of Thy people, and grant us Thy peace all the days of our life; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. (2nd Sunday after Epiphany.)

Or,

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men; Grant unto Thy people that they may love the thing which Thou commandest, and desire that which Thou dost promise; that so, among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. (4th Sunday after Easter.)

THE BLESSING.

Prayers

FOR

COMMUNICANTS' CLASSES.

[Several of the Prayers in the preceding Service for Cottage Lectures are appropriate. Also the Prayers Preparatory to Holy Communion (pp. 128-133) may be used, the singular number being changed, where necessary, into the plural. The Prayers in Mr Oxenden's "Earnest Communicant" are also recommended. The following may be added :-]

BEHOLD, LORD JESUS, encouraged by Thine own gracious invitation, we are preparing to draw nigh to Thine Altar. Weak and helpless, we come to Thee for strength. Sick and diseased, we fly to the Physician of souls. Hungry and thirsty, we betake ourselves to the Bread of Life and to the Fountain of Living Water. Thou hast said, "Him that cometh unto Me I "will in no wise cast out." But whence is this to us that our GOD should vouchsafe to come unto us? who are we that Thou shouldest bestow upon us even Thine own Self? How shall a conscious sinner dare to appear before Thee? or how canst Thou, Who art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity, endure to approach souls polluted with sin and uncleanness? Thou seest our very inward parts, and knowest we have nothing in them that is good, nothing to invite such mercy, nothing fit for the reception of

so pure and glorious a Guest. We can only humbly confess our own vileness and Thy unspeakable goodness. We praise and adore Thy marvellous love and exceeding abundant grace. The more unworthy we are, the more wonderful is Thy goodness, the more amazing Thy mercy and Thy condescension. Oh! make our longings and desires after Thy Divine Food some way answerable to our great need of it. Root out of our hearts all sinful and corrupt affections, all unkindness and ill-will. Deliver us, we pray Thee, from all coldness and formality. Make us to taste and see how gracious Thou art, and how wonderful in Thy doings towards the sons of men. May we have our pardon sealed, our weakness strengthened, all our evil inclinations subdued, our faith increased, our hope brightened, our love warmed, and our souls so united unto Thee, that nothing may again separate us from Thee. Oh! listen to our faulty prayers, blessed JESUS. Both now and ever vouchsafe to hear us, O CHRIST. Amen. (Altered from the "Companion to the Altar.")

INTERCESSION FOR COMMUNICANTS.

O MERCIFUL FATHER, we offer unto Thee our earnest intercession for all the Communicants of Thy Church in all places, but especially for ourselves and all other Communicants of this parish. Give unto us, we beseech Thee, larger outpourings of Thy Grace and HOLY SPIRIT. Knit us together more closely in the bonds of unity and love. Make us to feel more really our Christian fellowship and brotherhood. Make us to stand out more distinctly as Thy true

children and faithful people. Make us to be more consistently religious, more unworldly, more spiritually-minded. May we have grace always to confess CHRIST before men. We ought to be the first, when alas! we are too often last. We ought to be examples to the flock, when alas! we may well learn of others how to walk. We ought to let our light so shine before men that they may glorify Thee, when alas! we too often shame our holy professions. Oh take from us all our lukewarmness and halfheartedness. Stir up within us more life and zeal and thorough devotion to Thee. Give us the spirit of prayer, without which we cannot serve Thee truly. Make us forward and selfdenying in good works. Make us to care for the eternal good of others, that we may, each according to his power and his calling, teach Thy ways unto the wicked, and that sinners may be converted unto Thee. O LORD, wherefore is it said that those who kneel at Thy Altar are no better than others? Take from among us this reproach, and may we never give cause for it ourselves. Build us up more and more, O LORD, in faith, and love, and unity, and holiness; for the sake of JESUS CHRIST, our only LORD and SAVIOUR. Amen.

Missionary Service.

[The following Service may be shortened at the discretion of the reader. Thus the Litany may be used alone, or the Confession with some of the concluding Intercessions and the Lord's Prayer. The Address or Lecture may be given either before or after the Service. Hymns should be added.]

CONFESSION.

O MOST MERCIFUL FATHER, we confess before Thee, that we have done little to forward Thy kingdom in the world, and to advance Thy glory. We would humble ourselves before Thee for our past neglects, and seek for mercy and forgiveness. Pardon our shortcomings. Give us greater zeal for Thy glory. Make us more ready and more diligent, by our prayers, by our alms, and by our examples, to spread abroad the knowledge of Thy truth, and to enlarge the boundaries of Thy kingdom. May the love of CHRIST constrain us, and may we do all to Thy glory; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD and SAVIOUR. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ABSOLUTION.

O GOD, whose nature and property &c. (Sce p. 78.)
