Henry A. Wise A motion was made by Mr. Hawes to amend the said last amendment reported from the Committee of the Whole House, by adding after the amendment adopted on motion of Mr. Mercer, the following, viz.

" Also, for removing the obstructions to the navigation of Green river and Big Barren river, in the State of Kentucky, twenty-five thousand dollars."

And on the question that the House do agree to this amendment,
It was decided in the negative.

A motion was made by Mr. Denny to amend the said last amendment, by adding the following, viz.

"For the improvement of the navigation of the Ohio river from Pittsburg to Louisville, the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, to be commenced during the present year under the direction of the Secretary of War."

And on the question that the House do agree to this amendment,
It was decided in the negative.

A motion was made by Mr. Ewing to amend the said last amendment by adding the following, viz.

“ Also, for the improvement of the navigation of the Wabash river from the mouth of Tippecanoe to its confluence with the Ohio, to be expended under the direction of the Secretary of War, twenty thousand dollars.”

And on the question that the House do agree to this amendment,
It was decided in the negative.

A motion was made by Mr. Carr to amend the said last amendment by adding the following, viz.

C“ Also, for improving the navigation of the Indian chute through the falls of the Ohio river, twenty-five thousand dollars."

This amendment was disagreed to by the House.

A motion was made by Mr. Crockett to amend the said last amendment by adding the following, viz.

“ Also, to remove obstructions from the navigation of Hatchee, Forked Deer, and Obion, to the head of navigation, thirty thousand dollars, to be distributed equally to each river.”

This amendment was disagreed to by the House.

The question was then put, that the House do agree to the said last amendment reported from the Committee of the Whole House, as amended, viz.

“ For improving that branch of Elizabeth river called Deep creek, near the northern outlet of the Dismal Swamp canal, in the line of navigation between North Carolina and Virginia, twenty-nine thousand dollars; and for defraying the expense of surveys pursuant to the act of the 30th April, 1824, including arrearages for 1833, twenty-nine thousand dollars.”
