The amendment of the Senate to the bill (No. 15) for the relief of Peregrine Gardner, was read, and referred to the Committee of Claims. It was Ordered, that when the House shall adjourn this day, it will adjourn to meet again on Monday next.

And then the House adjourned until Monday, 12 o'clock meridian.

Mr. McKennan, from the Committee on Enrolled Bills, reported that the committee did, on the 24th instant, present to the President of the United States enrolled bills, of the following titles, viz.

On motion of Mr. Bates,

Resolved, That the Committee on Military Affairs be instructed to examine, and report upon, the claim of the legal representatives of the late Colonel Roswell Lee, deceased, for services performed by him as an inspector and otherwise, as set forth in his account on file in the Department of War.

Mr. Jarvis presented a petition of the selectmen of the town of Eden, on the island of Mount Desert, in the State of Maine, praying that a light-house may be erected at the mouth of Frenchman's bay.

Mr. Kavanagh presented a petition of Stevens Smith, of the State of Maine, owner of the fishing schooner called "The Rising States," which was wrecked, and totally lost, while engaged in a fishing voyage, praying to be allowed the bounty to which he would have been entitled if said vessel had completed her voyage, and returned to port.

Mr. Gorham presented a petition of Christopher T. Bayley, of the city of Boston, praying to be repaid the amount paid by him, in the year 1830, for medical and other attendance on sick American seamen in the port of St. Domingo.

Mr. Osgood presented a petition of George Gott and Jonathan Tarr, of Gloucester, in the State of Massachusetts, owner of the fishing schooner called "The Mayflower," which was lost whilst engaged on a fishing voyage, praying to be allowed the bounty to which they would have been entitled had said vessel completed her voyage, and returned to port.

Mr. Burges presented a petition of Thomas Sanford, of the State of Rhode Island, stating that his vessel, called "The Sally," was condemned and sold, in the year 1800, for trading to a French port, when, in fact, the port to which she traded was not a French, but a Spanish port; and praying that the value of said vessel, her cargo and apparel, may be paid to him.

Mr. Ellsworth presented a petition of merchants, shipmasters, and others, in the collection district of Middletown, in the State of Connecticut, praying that a light-house may be erected at Lynde point, at the mouth of the Connecticut river.

Mr. Cambreleng presented a petition of George Innes, of the city of New York, praying that his account as a deputy inspector of the customs for the years 1822 and 1823, may be adjusted on principles of equity.

Mr. Wardwell presented a petition of inhabitants of the State of New York, praying that an appropriation may be made to improve the harbor at the mouth of Big Sandy creek, on Lake Ontario.

Mr. Hazeltine presented a petition of inhabitants of the county of Chautauque, in the State of New York, praying that an appropriation may be made to improve the harbor of Portland, on Lake Erie.

Mr. John Adams presented a petition of inhabitants of Catskill, in the State of New York, praying that a light-house may be erected at Esopus meadows, on the North river.

Mr. Turrill presented a petition of inhabitants of the counties of Oswego and Jefferson, in the State of New York, praying that an appropriation may be made for the improvement of the harbor at the mouth of Salmon river, on Lake Ontario.

Mr. Harper, of Pennsylvania, presented a petition of inhabitants of the State of Delaware, praying that a pier or wharf, in connexion with the Delaware breakwater, may be constructed.

Mr. Milligan presented a petition for the same object from other inhabitants of the State of Delaware.

Mr. William B. Shepard presented a petition of inhabitants of Elizabeth City, in the State of North Carolina, praying that a marine hospital may be established and supported in said city, at the expense of the United States.

Mr. Speight presented a petition of inhabitants of the county of Carteret, in the State of North Carolina, praying that an appropriation may be made to improve the navigation of Coor sound, between Harbor island and the port of Beaufort.

Mr. Patterson, of Ohio, presented a petition of inhabitants of the State of Ohio, praying that an appropriation may be made to improve the harbor of Sandusky bay.

Mr. Cage presented a resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the State of Mississippi, asking for an extension of the privileges granted by the act creating Natchez a port of entry.

Mr. Lyon, of Michigan, presented a petition of Charles Jackson, praying compensation for loss sustained in building a light-house at Chicago, in Illinois, which light-house fell before it was paid for by the Government, and fell in consequence of being located on a site unfit for the

same.

Mr. Lyon, of Michigan, presented a petition of Jeremiah Moore, praying compensation for loss sustained in building a light-house on Outer-thunder-bay island, which fell in consequence of being located on a site unfit for the same.

Ordered, That the said petitions and resolutions be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Mr. Parks presented a petition of inhabitants of the town of Monson, in Somerset county, in the State of Maine;

Mr. Hazeltine presented a petition of the inhabitants of the counties of Cattaraugus and Chautauque, in the State of New York;

Mr. Banks presented a petition of inhabitants of the western parts of Pennsylvania;

Mr. Denny presented a petition of inhabitants of the western parts of Pennsylvania;

Mr. Allen, of Vermont, presented a petition of the inhabitants of Lewis county, in the State of Vermont;

Mr. Lyon, of Kentucky, presented a petition of inhabitants of the States of Kentucky and Tennessee;

Mr. Crockett presented a petition of inhabitants of the southwest corner of Dyer county, in the State of Tennessee;

Mr. Thomson presented a petition of inhabitants of the States of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio;

Mr. Vance presented a petition of inhabitants of the county of Hardin, in the State of Ohio;

Mr. Leavitt presented a petition of sundry inhabitants of Harrison county, in the State of Ohio;

Mr. Slade, of Illinois, presented a petition of inhabitants of Union and Franklin counties, in the State of Illinois;

Mr. Casey presented a petition of sundry citizens of the States of Indiana and Illinois;

Mr. Duncan presented a petition of the inhabitants of the counties of McLean and Sangamon, in the State of Illinois;

Mr. Bull presented a petition of inhabitants of the county of Morgan, in the State of Missouri;

Mr. Lyon, of Michigan, presented a petition of inhabitants of the counties of Kent, Ionia, and Clinton, in the Territory of Michigan;

praying, respectively, for the establishment of certain post routes therein designated and described.

Ordered, That the said petitions be referred to the Committee on the Post Office and Post Roads.

Ordered, That the petition of citizens of Niagara, New York, praying for a post route from Hartland to Royalton, presented February 25, 1833, be referred to the Committee on the Post Office and Post Roads.

Mr. Evans presented a petition of John Casey, of Scott county, in the State of Kentucky, praying to be allowed a pension in consequence of wounds received in the revolutionary war.

Mr. Lane presented a petition of Enoch Blasdel, of Dearborn county, in the State of Indiana, praying Congress to grant him a pension, in consequence of his being disabled, from the many difficulties he encountered while in the service of the United States, in the late war.

Mr. Whallon presented a petition of Levi M. Roberts, praying for arrearages of pension to which he thinks himself entitled,

Mr. W. P. Taylor presented a petition of Silas Duncan, a master commandant in the navy of the United States, praying for arrearages of pension from September, 1817, to March, 1833, to which he conceives he is entitled.

Ordered, That the said petitions be referred to the Committee on Invalid Pensions.

Ordered, That the petition of Job Wood, presented February 21, 1832, be referred to the Committee on Invalid Pensions.

Mr. Reed presented a petition of Elisha Berry, of the State of Vermont, praying to be allowed a pension for services rendered as a six months man in the war of the revolution.

Mr. Choate presented a petition of Abraham Perkins, praying for an additional pension for services rendered by him as carpenter's mate on board the frigate Confederacy, in the revolutionary war.

Mr. Horace Everett presented a petition of Elisha Lucas, praying to be placed upon the pension roll, in consideration of services rendered by him in the revolutionary war, in an enlistment under Captain George Hammond, of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Mr. Hard presented a petition of Edward Evens, of New York, praying that his name may be inscribed on the revolutionary pension roll. Mr. Wardwell presented a petition of Samuel Hubbard, of the State of New York, praying to be allowed the arrearage of pension to which he conceives he is entitled.

Mr. Pierson presented a petition of Benjamin Hall, of the State of New York, praying that his name may be restored to the pension list, under the act of March 18, 1818.

Mr. Hazeltine presented a petition of Margaret Hackney, widow of Joseph Hackney, deceased, of the State of Pennsylvania, praying to be allowed a pension for services rendered by her husband in the war of the revolution.

Mr. Beale presented a petition of Jacob Strayer, of the State of Virgiginia, praying that his name may be placed on the roll of revolutionary pensioners.

Mr. Deberry presented a petition of Job Benton, of the State of North Carolina, praying that his name may be inscribed on the list of revolutionary pensioners.

Mr. Mitchell, of Ohio, presented a petition of John Cullins, of the State of Ohio, praying Congress to pass a special law authorizing his name to be inscribed on the revolutionary pension roll.

Ordered, That the said petitions be referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions.

The undermentioned petitions, heretofore presented, were again presented, and referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Claims, viz. By Mr. Grennell: The petition of David Sanderson, presented March 1, 1830.

By Mr. Burges: The petition of Ephraim Bowen, presented December 11, 1832.

By Mr. Patton: The petition of the heirs of William Slaughter, presented March 26, 1832.

Mr. Burges presented a petition of Elizabeth Pearce, of the city of New York, heir at law of Israel Pearce, deceased, late of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, praying that certain claims to bounty land due soldiers of the revolutionary army, and which were assigned to said Israel Pearce, may be made good to her.

Mr. Ellsworth presented a petition of Carey Pratt, of the District of Columbia, praying to be paid for services as a naval officer in the revolutionary war.

Mr. Taylor, of New York, presented a petition of Henry Dygert, of the State of New York, praying Congress to redeem a large amount of paper money issued in the revolutionary war, which he now holds.

Mr. McKim presented a petition of Samuel Evans, of Annapolis, in the State of Maryland, praying for a grant of the bounty land to which he

conceives himself entitled, as the heir at law of S. Evans, a soldier in the revolutionary army.

Mr. Wise presented a petition of the heirs at law of Peter Helphenstine, deceased, a major in the Virginia line of the revolutionary army, and who died in service, praying to be paid the seven years' half pay promised by the resolution of Congress of August 24, 1780.

Mr. Wayne presented a petition of Mary Warner, of Georgia, heir at law of Robert Greer, deceased, praying to be paid the amount of two certificates of revolutionary debt, issued to said Greer, for a wagon and team taken into the public service.

Mr. Chilton Allan presented a document relative to a claim to bounty land, on the part of William Pawling, as one of the heirs at law of Captain Adam Wallace.

Mr. Archer presented a petition of the heirs at law of Willis Wilson, deceased, a captain in the Virginia State navy of the revolutionary war, setting forth that the half pay to which they were entitled under the act of July 5, 1832, "to provide for liquidating and paying certain claims of the State of Virginia," has been paid at the Treasury of the United States to a fraudulent claimant; and praying that the amount may be paid to them, notwithstanding the payment to said fraudulent claimant.

Ordered, That the said petitions be referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Claims.

On motion of Mr. Speight,

Ordered, That the petition of inhabitants of Plymouth, in North Carolina, for the erection of a marine hospital on Beacon island, presented, by resolution, on the 23d of April, 1832, be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

On motion of Mr. Choate,

Ordered, That the petition of William Haskell, presented January 3, 1832, be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Mr. Jarvis presented a petition of the selectmen of the town of Eden, on the island of Mount Desert, in the State of Maine, praying that an appropriation may be made to build a bridge across Mount Desert narrows, and also for clearing out the channel.

Mr. Baylies presented a petition of inhabitants of the town of Taunton, in the county of Bristol, in the State of Massachusetts, praying that an appropriation may be made to remove the obstructions to the navigation in Taunton river.

Mr. Barber presented a petition of inhabitants of the county of New London, in the State of Connecticut, praying that a breakwater may be erected in the harbor of Westbrook, in said State.

Mr. Howell presented a petition of inhabitants of the State of New York, praying that measures may be adopted for the improvement of the navigation of the river Alleghany from Pittsburg, in Pennsylvania, to Olean point, in the State of New York.

Mr. Harrison presented a memorial of the same tenor and for the same purpose, from inhabitants of the State of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Coulter presented a petition of inhabitants of the State of Pennsylvania, praying Congress to subscribe a million of dollars towards the construction of the western section of the Chesapeake and Ohio canal.

Mr. Allen, of Virginia, presented a petition of inhabitants of Wood
