ADAPTED TO THE REVISED CODE EXAMINATIONS, THE TO SCHOOLS GENERALLY. THIRD EDITION, REVISED AND ENLARGED. BY E. JONES, B.A. "Though this be madness, there's method in it."-Shakspere. LONDON: F. PITMAN, 20, PATERNOSTER ROW, E.C. LIVERPOOL: PHILIP, SON, AND NEPHEW, SOUTH CASTLE STREET. SIR, Sth September, 1864. I have read the "Essentials of Spelling" with much interest and pleasure. It contains a great mass of useful information; and the somewhat unwieldy subject of English Spelling is so skilfully handled that I can well believe that the little manual has found favor in the eyes of practical schoolmasters. I am always glad when I see the results of scientific research begin to be utilised by practical teachers. Nothing, after all, is easier to teach than the truth; and if the principles of the Science of Language are true, they are sure to be adopted, in time, for the practical teach ing of languages. I accept the dedication of your work with much pleasure, and remain Yours very faithfully, To E. JONES, Esq. MAX MÜLLER. |
