The information which it contains is the result of experience, --the only safe path by which one individual can attempt to guide another; and hence, if the contents of the following pages should, in cases which have not been foreseen by the Author, fail to satisfy those who may consult them under extraordinary or complicated circumstances, he at least feels convinced that they cannot mislead; as he has confined himself strictly within the limits of his practical knowledge of the subject on which he treats, and admitted nothing which he cannot vindicate by precedent and example.
