BE OPENED. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. And HE charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; and were beyond measure astonished, saying: "He hath done all things well : HE maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak."

The Epistle.. 2 Cor. ii. 4-11.

ND such trust have we through Christ to Godward: not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God: who hath also made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life. But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance, which glory was to be done away; how, shall not the ministration of the Spirit be rather glorious! For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

The Gospel. Luke x. 23--37.

ND HE turned himself unto his disciples, and said privately: "Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: For I tell you, that many prophets snd kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them." And, behold a certain lawyer stood

up, and tempted him, saying: "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" HE said unto him: "What is written in the law? how readest thou?" And he answering, said: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself." And he said unto him: "Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live." But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus: "Who is my neigl:bour?" And Jesus answering, said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an Inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him: Take care of him: aud whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?" And he said, "He that shewed mercy on him." Then said Jesus unto him: Go, and do thou likewise.

The Epistle. Gal. iii. 15-22.

BRETHREN, I speak after the manner of men,

though it is but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man annulleth, or addeth thereto. Now, to Abraham and his seed were the promises

made. He saith not, and to seeds, as of many: but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before, of God in Christ; the law, which was four hun-, dred and thirty years after, cannot annul, that it should make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, 'till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one; but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid for if there had been a law given, which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

The Gospel. Luke xvii. 11—19.

ND it came to pass, as He went to Jerusalem, that HE passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as HE entered into a certain village, there met HIм ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: and they lifted up their voices, and said: "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." And when HE saw them, he said unto them: "Go shew yourselves unto the priest." And it came to pass, that as they went, they were, cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and

he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering, said: "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glo ry to God, save this stranger." And HE said unto him: "Arise, go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole."

lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that yo would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now, the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts.

The Gospel. Matt. vi. 24-34.

:

O man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your,

body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they Which of you, by taking thought, can add one cu bit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lillies of the field how, they grow they toil not, neither do they spin; and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying: What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithall shall we be cloathed? (for after all these things do the Gentiles seek ;) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first_ the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take, therefore, no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day, is the evil thereof.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden. Let him
