HE Fifth Year of Her Majesty's most glori ous Reign, has been fo crowded with Action and Bulinefs, both at Home and Abroad, That in Imitation of a celebrated* Au- Florus. thor, when he went about to write the History of the Roman People, I may fay on this Occafion, That whoever confiders the Wonderful Events, and Weighty Tranfactions that have happen'd within this Twelve-Month, he will fcarcely believe the Time to have been fo fhort. This great Variety of noble Matter would, at firft, have deterr'd the Wri ter of thefe Papers from Purfuing his Annual Hiftory; but upon Second Thoughts, he was encourag'd to go on by the Indulgence he has hitherto met with in his Readers; which gives him Hopes, They will excufe both his Tranfgreffing the ufual Compafs of thefe Annals, as to the Bulk of the Book; and his B

IN the laft Year's ANNALS, we clofed the Account of the Domeftick Tranfactions, with the Sellion of the Parliament, which ended the 19th of March, 170. The fame day, the Lords prefented an Addrefs to the Queen, Befeeching her Majefty to appoint Perfons to confider of the most effectual Means for Manning the Fleet: (which has been there related at large, and) purfuant to which, a few days after, a long Proclamation was publifh'd, For the putting in mation for Execution an Act of Parliament, for the Encouragement thebetter and Encrerfe of Seamen, and for the better and speedier Manning of Manning her Majefty's Fleet, and alfo for the Encouragethe Fleet, ment of Semen and Able-bodied Landmen, voluntarily fington, to enter themselves in Her Majefty's Sea-Service. Companion Upon a Petition from the Bifhop of Chester, and of the mof the Gentry and Clergy of the South Parts of Lancafbire, Complaining of the Intolerable Boldneß and Profumption of the Romish Priests and Pepifts, in imploying all their inveighling Arts and Devices, in Perverting and Seducing the Gentry and Commonalty, and that not only fecretly but openly and publickly, in defiance of the Laws. The Commons Addrefs'd her Majefty, "That She would be pleas'd to iflue out Her Royal Pro'clamation, for the putting in Execution the Laws which are in Force, againft all fuch Perfons as have, or fhall endeavour to pervert Her Majefty's Subjects to the Popish Religion. Given at Our Court at Kensington the Eleventh Day of April, 1706. In the Fifth Year of Our Reign.

The Duke of On the roth. of the fame Month, his Grace the Marlbo- Duke of Marlborough went on Board the Peregrine rough em-Galley, accompanied by the Lord Hallifax, who barks for Holland. was fent by her Majefty, with a Compliment to April 10. the Elector of Hanover, and the Princefs Sophin, and with the Garter for the Electoral Prince; By his Grace's Son-in-Law the Marquifs of Mounthermer; Mr. Buys, Penfioner of Amfterdam; Mr. Piefs, PrivyCounsellor to the King of Denmark, and several other Perfons of Diftinction. The next Morning his Grace pafs'd by the Nore, with feveral other Yatchs, under Convoy of the Rumney and Rye; join'd the Squadron of her Majefty's Ships commanded by Sir Edward Whitaker, at the Gunfleet; and the 14th. about 9 in the Morning the Squadron left his Grace, with the Centurion Man of War, and the feveral Yatchs Where he and Sloops, going into the Maefe. In the Afternoon arrives, his Grace landed at Rotterdam, and in the Evening April 14. arrived at the Hague, where, the next Day, he re

ceiv'd the Compliments of the Publick Ministers, and other Perfons of Quality and Note, on his happy Arrival; and the day following, his Grace had a Conference with the Deputies of the States General, upon the neceffary Meafures to be taken for Opening the Campaign.

On the 23d. of the fame Month of April, Signior Francifco Cornaro, Ambaffador in Ordinary from the Republick of Venice to her Majefty, made his publick Entry, with a magnificent Train. He was receiv'd at cerm'ch by the Earl of Leicester and Sir Charles Cell. Mafter of the Ceremonies, accompanied by 1x Ger men of her Majefty's Privy-Chamber, and Finsite Water in her Majefty's Barges to the

Tower, complimented his Excellency at his Landing, A. C. and he was faluted with a Difcharge of the Cannon, 1705. the Standard being difplay'd. From thence he was conducted in her Majefty's Coach, followed by a Coach of his Royal Highness Prince George of Denmark, three of his own Coaches, one with eight Horfes, and the other two with fix Hofes a-piece, and many Coaches of the Nobility with fix, Horfes cach, to his own Houfe, where his Excellency was' complimented in her Majefty's Name by the Ld Howard of Effingham, and on the part of the Prince by the Earl of Westmorland, one of the Lords of the BedChamber to his Royal Highnefs: And his Excellen cy entertained very fplendidly the Perfons of Qua lity and others, that accompanied him at his Entry.

The 25th. being the Day appointed for his pub-HA lick Audience, the Earl of Bridgewater, and Sir Charles dience, Cotterell, with fixteen Gentlemen of the Privy-Cham- Apr, 25. ber, conducted him from his own Houte to St. James's Palace in her Majefty's Coach, followed by a Coach of his Royal Highness Prince George, the Ambaffador's own Coaches, and many Coaches of the Nobility with fix Horfes each. His Excellency was receiv'd at the Gate of the Palace by the Knight Marshal; her Majesty's Foot-Guards then upon Du ty were drawn up in the Court, and their Officers faluted his Excellency with their Hats as he paffed by. His Excellency was conducted to the CouncilChamber; and when her Majefty was ready, proceeded to his Audience: He was receiv'd at the Guard-Chamber Door by the commanding Officer of the Yeoman of the Guard, (in the Abfence of the Marquis of Hartington) and afterwards by Major-General Seymour, at the Head of the Band of Gentlemen Penfioners (the Duke of St. Albans being abfent,) and at the Door of the Room of Audience by the Earl of Kent, Lord Chamberlain of her Majefty's Houfhold. His Excellency had afterwards Audience of his Royal Highness Prince George of Denmark, and was receiv'd at his Royal Highnefs's Bed-chamber Door by the Lord Byron, one of the Lords of the Bed-chamber to his Royal Highnefs: Which Audiences being over, the Ambaffador was reconducted by the Earl of Bridgewater, the Mafter of the Ceremo nies, and the Gentlemen
