/lumber, a little more folding of the hands to sleep: eternity depends upon your present virtue. Life is ebbing fast, the day of visitation is drawing on 5 a thousand dangers surround you, every one of which is sufficient to precipitate it. If a course of virtue were not necessary to your happiness, he, you may be sure, who willeth not the death of any creature, would have given you happiness upon easier terms; he, who sollicited you so long with his grace in vain, will be obliged to reject you in these words, that at once declare and fix your fate — Because I have called and ye refused, I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; but ye have set at nought my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear comet h. Prov. i. 24, 25, 26.

God give us all grace, in this our day, so to work out our salvation, that we may be prepared whenever he is

pleased pleased to call for us f With a mind thus fully at peace with him, how safely can we face the temptations of the busy day, and how securely repose ourselves amidst the perils and dangers of the night! How happily are we armed against all emergencies! Cut off soon in this virtuous course, we are but transplanted so much the sooner to a happier world; if the time of trial continues longer, and patience has a longer exercise; a greater reward, a brighter crown of glory is ready to recompense ©ur encreasing virtue.

The Things Which Are Seen Are Temporal; But The Things Which Are Not Seen, Are EterNAL.

ALL the temptations of sin arise from present objects ; and as faith in the dijlant objects of religion is the most effectual, if not the only, means of counterbalancing their influence; it is of the utmost importance, to have right apprehensions about this great fundamental article.
