ADDITION,

RULE.-1. Write dollars under dollars, cents under cents, mills under mills, and point under point, and add them up as whole numbers; write a period or comma in the amount, directly under those above. 2. When dimes are in the given sum, but one place is required; but for cents, two places. If the cents be less than ten, a cipher must be prefixed on the left-hand of the figure which expresses them, thus .08, eight cents. 3. There may be a small space left between the denominations and the points omitted, thus :

MULTIPLICATION.

RULE.-Multiply as in common Multiplication, and point off one figure to the right-hand of the product for mills, the next two for cents, the remainder will be dollars. If there are no mills in the quantity multiplied, point off two places to the right; the remainder will be dollars.

Proof, as Simple Multiplication, or more correctly by Division.
