BY ALFRED WILLIAMS MOMERIE M.A., D.SC., LL.D. D SOMETIME FELLOW OF ST JOHN'S COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE, AND PROFESSOR OF LOGIC AND METAPHYSICS IN KING'S COLLEGE, LONDON UNIVERSITY OF NOTE TO THE FIRST EDITION. THIS little book was written at the request of the Editor of the "Helps to Belief" Series. He was, however, of opinion that it was too abstruse for the class of readers for whom that Series was intended, and he therefore suggested a considerable number of alterations. But, as it appeared to me that these changes would weaken the argument, I asked permission to withdraw the book from the series; and I now publish it by itself entirely on my own responsibility. A. W. M. NOTE TO THE SECOND EDITION. I HAVE only seen one reply to 'Belief in God,' and that was in the 'Westminster Review.' The article was very short, and not very relevant; but I have added a few footnotes with reference to the reviewer's animadversions. A. W. M. |
