IV. An Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money required for defraying certain expenses of the Civil Government for the year 1856, and for certain other expenses connected with the public service, and also for raising a Loan on the credit of the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

HEREAS by Messages from His Excellency Sir Edmund Walker Head, Governor General of British North America, and Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over this Province of Canada, and the Estimates accompanying the same, laid before both Houses of the Provincial Parliament, it appears that the sums hereinafter mentioned are required to defray certain expenses of the Civil Government of this Province and of the Public Service thereof, for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six: May it therefore please Your Majesty that it be enacted, and be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of Canada, that,

I. From and out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of this £716,774 9s. 3d., appropri- Province, there shall be and may be paid and applied a sum not exceeding in the whole the sum of seven hundred and sixteen thousand seven hundred and seventy-four pounds, nine shillings and three pence, currency, for defraying the several charges and expenses of the Civil Government and Public Service of this Province for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six, and other purposes set forth in the Schedule to this Act.

II. It shall be lawful for the Governor in Council to £250,000 may authorize the raising by way of loan, on the credit of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of this Province, of a sum not exceeding two hundred and fifty thousand pounds, currency, to be placed to the credit of the said Consolidated Revenue Fund, towards making good the sums appropriated out of the said Fund by this Act, for certain contingencies of the Public Service connected with the Public Works.

IV. Accounts in detail of all moneys received and paid Accounting under this Act, and of the Debentures issued and the interest clause. thereon, and of the redemption of the whole or any part of such Debentures, and of all expenses attending the collection and payment of the sums of money collected, received or paid under the authority of this Act, shall be laid before both Houses of the Legislature of this Province at each Session thereof.
