'Till wings of faith, and strong desire Prepare us, Lord, by grace divine, 342. God's Church comforted. HEAR what God the Lord hath spoken, O my people, faint and few ; Comfortless, afflicted, broken, Fair abodes I build for you: Thorns of heart-felt tribulation • Shall no more perplex your ways; You shall name your walls Salvation, And your gates shall all be praise. Ye no more your suns descending Waning moons no more shall see; But your griefs for ever ending, Find eternal noon in me: God shall rise, and shining o'er you, Change to day the gloom of night; He, the Lord, shall be your glory, • God your everlasting light.' 343. The Church triumphing. HEAD of the church triumphant! 'Till thou appear, Thy members here Shall sing like those in glory, We lift our hearts and voices, And give to God The praise of our salvation. While in affliction's furnace, Which made us thine, Shall keep us thine for ever, Whilst thou art near, The world, with sin and Satan, Break thro' them all, And sing the song of Moses. By faith we see the glory To which thou shalt restore us, For that high prize Which thou hast set before us, And if thou count us worthy, At God's right hand, 344. Love to God. HAPPY the heart where graces reign, Where love inspires the breast: Love is the brightest of the train, And strengthens all the rest. Knowledge, alas! 'tis all in vain, And all in vain our fear; Our stubborn sins will fight and reign, If love be absent there. 'Tis love that makes our cheerful feet In swift obedience move; The devils know and tremble too,] This is the grace that lives and sings, When join'd to that harmonious throng, Then shall we tune our golden harps, And ev'ry note be love. 345. Spread of the Gospel. O'ER the gloomy hills of darkness, With a glorious day of grace: Let thy glorious morning dawn. Let the Indian, let the negro, Let the gospel Loud resound from pole to pole. Kingdoms wide that sit in darkness, Grant them, Lord, the glorious light, And from eastern coasts to western, May the morning chase the night, And redemption Freely purchas'd, win the day. May the glorious day approaching, Spread abroad thy holy name, Of the great Immanuel's land. Fly abroad, thou mighty gospel, May thy lasting wide dominion Saviour, all the world around. 346. The Peace of God, PEACE be to this congregation, Peace, the fruit of cancell'd sin! Give our raptur'd souls to prove Glorious, uttermost salvation, Heav'nly, everlasting love. 347. Rejoice in the Lord. REJOICE evermore, In Jesus's love; With glad exultation |
