'Till wings of faith, and strong desire
Bear ev'ry thought above.

Prepare us, Lord, by grace divine,
For thy bright courts on high;
Then bid our spirits rise and join
The chorus of the sky.

342. God's Church comforted. HEAR what God the Lord hath spoken, O my people, faint and few ; Comfortless, afflicted, broken, Fair abodes I build for you: Thorns of heart-felt tribulation • Shall no more perplex your ways; You shall name your walls Salvation, And your gates shall all be praise. Ye no more your suns descending Waning moons no more shall see; But your griefs for ever ending, Find eternal noon in me:

God shall rise, and shining o'er you, Change to day the gloom of night; He, the Lord, shall be your glory, • God your everlasting light.'

343.

The Church triumphing.

HEAD of the church triumphant!
We joyfully adore thee;

'Till thou appear,

Thy members here

Shall sing like those in glory,

We lift our hearts and voices,
With blest anticipation,
And cry aloud,

And give to God

The praise of our salvation.

While in affliction's furnace,
And passing thro' the fire,
Thy love we praise
Which knows our days,
And ever brings us nigher.
We clap our hands exulting,
In thine almighty favour,
The love divine

Which made us thine,

Shall keep us thine for ever,
Thou dost conduct thy people
Thro' torrents of temptation,
Nor will we fear,

Whilst thou art near,
The fire of tribulation.

The world, with sin and Satan,
In vain our march opposes;
By thee we shall

Break thro' them all,

And sing the song of Moses.

By faith we see the glory

To which thou shalt restore us,
The cross despise,

For that high prize

Which thou hast set before us,

And if thou count us worthy,
We each, as dying Stephen,
Shall see thee stand

At God's right hand,
To take us up to heav'n.

344. Love to God.

HAPPY the heart where

graces reign, Where love inspires the breast: Love is the brightest of the train, And strengthens all the rest. Knowledge, alas! 'tis all in vain, And all in vain our fear;

Our stubborn sins will fight and reign, If love be absent there.

'Tis love that makes our cheerful feet In swift obedience move;

The devils know and tremble too,]
But Satan cannot love.

This is the grace that lives and sings,
When faith and hope shall cease;
'Tis this shall strike our joyful strings
In the sweet realms of bliss.

When join'd to that harmonious throng,
That fills the choirs above;

Then shall we tune our golden harps, And ev'ry note be love.

345.

Spread of the Gospel.

O'ER the gloomy hills of darkness,
Look, my soul, be still and gaze,
All the promises do travail

With a glorious day of grace:
Blessed jubilee,

Let thy glorious morning dawn.

Let the Indian, let the negro,
Let the rude barbarian see,
That divine and glorious conquest,
Once obtain'd on Calvary;

Let the gospel

Loud resound from pole to pole.

Kingdoms wide that sit in darkness, Grant them, Lord, the glorious light, And from eastern coasts to western, May the morning chase the night, And redemption

Freely purchas'd, win the day.

May the glorious day approaching,
From eternal darkness dawn,
And the everlasting gospel

Spread abroad thy holy name,
Through all the borders'

Of the great Immanuel's land.

Fly abroad, thou mighty gospel,
Win aud conquer, never cease;

May thy lasting wide dominion
Multiply and still increase;
Sway thy sceptre,

Saviour, all the world around.

346. The Peace of God,

PEACE be to this congregation,
Peace to every soul therein,
Peace, the fore-taste of salvation,

Peace, the fruit of cancell'd sin!
Peace, that speaks its heav'nly giver,
Peace, to sensual minds unknown,
Peace divine, that lasts for ever,.
Here erect its glorious throne!
Prince of Peace, if thou art near us,
Fix in all our hearts thy home;
By thy swift appearing cheer us,
Quickly let thy kingdom come:
Answer all our expectation,

Give our raptur'd souls to prove Glorious, uttermost salvation, Heav'nly, everlasting love.

347. Rejoice in the Lord.

REJOICE evermore,
With angels above,
In Jesus's pow'r,

In Jesus's love;

With glad exultation
Your triumph proclaim,"
