No. 16. IN ASSEMBLY, January 14, 1842. REPORT Of the committee on the militia and public defence, on the petition of Michael Francisco. Mr. Griffin from the committee on the militia and public defence, to whom was referred the petition of Michael Francisco, a soldier of the revolution, praying for a grant of one hundred acres of land, REPORTS: That your committee have examined the papers and documents appertaining to the said petition, in which it appears that the petitioner performed services in the year 1782, which according to the laws of this State, entitled him to 500 acres of land belonging to this State. And it also appears by the documents in the possession of the commitmittee, that the petitioner located on 200 acres of land in the county of Albany, and gave notice to the Surveyor-General of his location, but which was afterwards declared by the Surveyor-General not to be va cant. Your committee would here notice the conflicting testimony in the documents in their possession. It appears that a law was passed on the 23d March, 1782, allowing a bounty of 200 acres of land for certain services, which was nine months' service in the line of this State. Your committee find a document purporting to be an assignment of ten persons to the petitioner of any right, title or interest they may have in the said bounty land. Said assignment bears date 30th of May, [Assembly, No. 16.] 1 |
