PSALM XCVII.

The fubject of this Pfalm is the fame with that of the preceding, and it was probably written on the fame accafion. It fets forth the power and majesty of God to all nations, which, cafting away their idols, should worship bim alone.

1. THE Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of the ifles be glad.

2. Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the establishment of his throne.

3. Fire goeth before him, and flame burneth up his enemies round about.

4. His lightnings gleam over the world: the earth beholdeth and trembleth.

5. The hills melt like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6. The heavens declare his righteousness; and all the nations fee his glory.

7. Confounded be all they that ferve graven images, that boast themselves of idols; worship him all ye gods.

8. Zion fhall hear and rejoice, and the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments, O Lord.

9. For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth : thou art exalted far above all gods.

10. O ye that love the Lord, see that ye hate the thing that is evil; he preferveth the fouls of his faints, and delivereth them out of the hand of the ungodly.

11. Light fpringeth up for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

12. Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous, and give thanks to the memorial of his holinefs.

PSALM XCVIII.

This Pfalm appears to have been written on occasion of Some recent deliverance of the Ifraelites; it refembles much the 96th Pfalm in many of its expreffions, and therefore was probably written by David, to whom alfo the lxx. afcribe it.

1. O SING unto the Lord a new fong, for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand and his holy arm hath gotten him the victory.

2. The Lord hath made known his falvation, his righteousness hath he openly fhewed in the fight of the nations.

3. He hath remembered his mercy and truth toward the houfe of Ifrael; all the bounds of the land have feen the falvation of our God.

4. Make a joyful noife unto the Lord, all the earth; fing, rejoice, and give thanks.

5. Sing unto the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the voice of fong.

6. With trumpets and found of cornet make a joyful noife before the Lord, the King.

7. Let the fea roar, and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.

8. Let the floods clap their hands, let the hills rejoice together before the Lord, for he cometh to judge the earth.

9. With righteousness shall he judge the world, and the nations with equity.

PSALM XCIX.

The praifes of God are fet forth, and the Ifraelites exborted to celebrate them on mount Sion.

1. THE Lord reigneth, let the nations tremble; he fitteth between the cherubims, let the earth be moved.

2. The Lord is great in Zion, and he is high above all the nations.

3. Let them praise thy great and terrible name, for it is holy and mighty.

4. Thou art a King that loveth judgment, thou doft establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

5. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool, for it is holy.

6. Mofes and Aaron his chief ministers, and Samuel who called upon his name; they called upon the Lord, and he heard them.

7. He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar; they kept his teftimonies, and the ordinance that gave them.

8. Thou answeredft them, O Lord God; thou waft a God that forgave them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.

9. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill: for the Lord our God is holy.

PSALM C.

This Pfalm, as the Chaldee paraphraft informs us, was peculiarly appointed to be fung when the facrifices of thanksgiving were offered, mentioned Levit. vii.

12, 13.

1. O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands.

2. Serve the Lord with gladnefs, and come before his prefence with a fong.

3. Be ye fure that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the fheep of his pasture.

4. O go your way into his gates with thankf giving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him and fpeak good of his name.,

5. For the Lord is gracious; his mercy is everlafting, and his truth endureth from generation to generation.
