13. Return, O Lord, how long wilt thou afflict us? and let it repent thee concerning thy fervants.

14. O fatisfy us with thy mercy and that foon; that we may be glad and rejoice all our days. 15. Comfort us now again according to the days wherein thou haft afflicted us, and the years where

in we have feen evil.

16. Let thy works appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

17. And may the favour of the Lord our God be upon us; and may he profper the work of our hands upon us, yea profper the works of our hands.

PSALM XCI.

The Author bere fpeaks of the Special providence and divine protection which he may with confidence expect, who places his entire hope and trust in God.

1. HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High, that abideth under the shadow of the Almighty,

2. May fay of the Lord, "He is my refuge, and my fortress, my God, in him will I trust.”

3. For he fhall deliver thee from the fnare of fowler; and from the noifome peftilence.

4. He fhall cover thee with his feathers, and un

der his wings fhalt thou be fafe; his truth fhall be thy spear and buckler.

5.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror of night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day.

6. For the peftilence that walketh in darkness nor for the destruction that wasteth at noon day.

7. A thousand fhall fall at thy fide, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it fhall not come nigh thee.

8. Only with thine eyes thou shalt behold, and fee the reward of the wicked.

9. Because thou haft faid, O Lord, thou art my refuge, and haft made the Moft High thy habitation;

10. There shall no evil befall thee, neither fhall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11. For he fhall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13. Thou shalt tread upon the viper and the afp; the ferpent and the dragon fhalt thou trample under thy feet.

14. Because he hath trusted in me therefore will I deliver him; I will fet him on high, because he hath known my name.

15. He fhall call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honour.

16. With length of days will I fatisfy him, and

PSALM XCII,

A Pfalm for the Sabbath Day.

1. IT is good to give thanks unto the Lord, and to fing praises unto thy name, O Most High.

2. To fhew forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.

3. Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the lute, upon the harp with folemn found.

4. For thou Lord, haft made me glad in thy works; I rejoice in the operations of thy hands.

5. O Lord, how great are thy works; thy thoughts are very deep,

6. An unwife man knoweth not this; and a fool doth not understand it;

7. That the wicked fpring as the grafs, and all the workers of iniquity flourish; that they may be destroyed for ever.

8. But thou Lord, art most high for evermore. 9. For lo, thine enemies, O Lord, lo! thine enemies fhall perish; all the workers of iniquity fhall be scattered.

10. But my horn fhalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn; I fhall be anointed with fresh oil.

11. Mine eye alfo fhall fee its defire on mine enemies, mine ear fhall hear of the wicked that rise up against me, evil things.

12. The righteous fhall flourish like a palm-tree; he fhall grow up like a cedar in Libanus.

13. Those that are planted in the house of the Lord, in the courts of our God, fhall flourish.

14. They fhall ftill bring forth fruit in old age; they fhall be full of fap, and flourishing, full of juice and bloffoming.

15. That they may shew how upright is the Lord, my strength; and that there is no unrighteousness in him.

PSALM XCIII.

The Majefty of God is here fet forth, as the creator and fupreme governor of the world. As the topics infifted on in this Pfalm are the fame with thofe of the

96th, and the expressions likewife extremely fimilar, we may conclude it was written by the fame perfon and on the fame fubject; but that Pfalm is unqueftionably David's and was composed by him when the Ark was brought in folemn pomp from Obededom to Mount Sion. 1 Chron. XV.

1. THE Lord is king, he hath put on glorious apparel; the Lord hath put on his apparel and girded himself with ftrength; the world alfo he hath made fo fecure, that it cannot be moved.

2. Thy throne is established of old; thou art from everlasting.

3.

The floods have lifted up, OLord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their

waves.

4. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the fea. 5. Thy teftimonies are very fure; reverend is the holiness of thy houfe, O Lord, for ever.

PSALM XCIV.

The Pfalmift here complains of the impiety and injuftice of men, whom he threatens with the punishment of God, and exhorts good men not to be difcouraged
