ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Advocate.

Amen.

A PRAYER FOR TEMPORAL BLESSINGS.

O LORD our God, who hast safely brought us to the eve of another of thine own days, we humbly pray thee to remove from our hearts all worldly thoughts and cares. As we have closed the business of the week, so do thou close our minds and spirits to all anxieties and engagements of this life, and open them only to those of the better life to come. Let the dew of thy blessing rest on this household through the night. Renew our bodily strength, and refresh our minds with sufficient repose, that we may awake up better fitted for the duties of thine own hallowed day of rest. Grant us the continuance of every needful temporal blessing, and satisfy us with the assurance of thy fatherly will in all that befalls us. Grant us these blessings for the sake of our great Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

AN INTERCESSORY PRAYER.

O LORD, let thy continual pity cleanse and defend thy church. Enlarge her borders by gathering in thine elect of all nations, and by conversion of the Jews to the faith of Christ. Regard with thy special favour all bishops, pastors, and missionaries. Keep them sound in doctrine; unblemished in life ; patient, diligent, laborious, full of faith, zeal, and love for souls. We intreat the full outpouring of thy Spirit upon all flesh. Especially bless all kings and rulers of nations. We commend to thy fatherly regard the prosperous and the afflicted, the aged and young children, the sick and the dying, and all our relations, friends, and neighbours. Let all unite to praise the name of the Lord, whose name only is excellent, and his glory above all the earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A THANKSGIVING.

O FATHER of mercies, Father of men and angels, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, glory be to thee from every creature in heaven and earth, and under the earth. Especially let thy holy name be magnified in that church which thou hast redeemed to Thyself, to be thine heritage for ever. We adore thee for having brought us into thy fold, and given us so largely both spiritual and temporal mercies. May we evermore give thanks unto thee in thy holy church, not only with our lips, but in our lives.

Grant that, being kept by the providence of thy goodness, fed with the manna of thy word, and replenished with the grace of thy Holy Spirit, we may from week to week joyfully serve and adore thee, till we join in the praises of Angels and the Spirits of the just made perfect, through the merits and mediation of our only Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Or this,

ALMIGHTY God, Heavenly Father, we yield thee humble and hearty praise for all thy mercies, especially for every favour, and comfort, every help, deliverance, and event of the past week. We may well be lost in wonder when we review thy goodness, and in shame, when we reflect on our ingratitude, and neglect of thy manifold favours. Let the time past suffice us to have thus increased our transgressions. And let us, O blessed God, through the power of the Holy Ghost, for whose influences and indwelling we now praise and adore thee, arise to a life and affections more becoming our holy calling and thy love to us in the gift of Jesus Christ. For that inestimable gift, above all thy other blessings, we now thank thee, and hope to praise thee through all ages, world without end. Amen. Our Father, &c.

A CONCLUDING COLLECT.

O HEAVENLY Father, whose blessed Son having rested as to the body, this day in the grave, manifested himself on the morrow to his chosen disciples,

M

reveal him anew to our souls on the coming Sabbath morning. And may the peace he spake to them be now and then given also to us, for his sake. Amen.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing, that we may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

LORD'S-DAY MORNING.

YE shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary; I am the Lord. Leviticus xxvi. 2.

The sons of the stranger that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of Isaiah lvi. 6, 7. prayer.

Hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God. Ezekiel xx. 20.

Let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works; not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another, and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Heb. x. 24, 25.

I was in the spirit on the Lord's day. Rev. i. 10.
