The living, as we have already stated, is in the gift of the Crown, and is a discharged vicarage, valued in the

King's Book at £4 3s. 4d. It is estimated at the present time to be worth £310 per annum.

The following document will shew the apportionment of the rent charge in lieu of tithe:

Now I, John George Weddall, of North Hall, near Howden, in the east riding of the county of York, having been duly appointed valuer, to apportion the total sum awarded to be paid by way of rent charge, in lieu of tithes, amongst the several lands of the said parish of Wednesbury, do hereby apportion the rent charge as follows :Gross rent charge, payable to the tithe owners in lieu of tithes, for the

parish of Wednesbury, in the county of Stafford, four hundred and eighty pounds, viz:

Memorandum quod ivto. Idus Junii anno Domini 1309 Frater Thomas de Hales Abbathie de Hales canonicus et presbiter admissus fuit apud London ad vicariam de Waleshale tunc vacantem per mortem Fratris Galfridi ultimi vicarii ejusdem, et incepit vacare die Mercurii in vigilia Apostolorum Philippi et Jacobi. Et institutus fuit canonice in eadem ad presentacionem religiosorum virorum Abbatis et Conventus de Hales. Et mandabatur Archdiacono vel ejus officiali quod induceret eum in corporalem possessionem. Sub eadem data.

Januarii anno quo supra (1315) apud Eccleshale Frater Henricus de Derham monachus de Halys virtute privilegiorum que Abbas et Conventus ejusdem loci obtinent in hac parte, admissus fuit ad vicariam de Walshal ad presentacionem virorum religiosorum verorum ejusdem vicarie patronorum, et institutus in eadem. Et vacavit eadem vicaria per resignacionem.
