Hear instruction, and be wise, am) refuse it not. Blessed is the man that hearelh me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me limit th life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord. 'Jut he that bath sinmlli against me wrongeth his own soul; all they that bate me love death. Prov. viii, 17, 32. Therefore, whatsoever thy hand findeih to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Keel. ix, 10. But now, he sailh, awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. £ph. v. 14. And he shall distill the drops of bis love into the blossoms of your soul, so that they shall send forth a sweet perfume. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honour thy father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in nurture and admonition ol the Lord; and ye servants, be obedient to your masters in every thing which is good, just, and right, in the sight of God. So that you may have a conscience void of offence towards God, and towards man. And ye masters, do the same unto your servants, teaching them and forbearing threatening; knowing that your and their master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. Eph. c. vi. Therefore, provoke not one another, neither do any thing which is wrong one to another. Be ye not angry except it is against unbecoming and indecent and sinful practices. Be ye angry, and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Therefore be ye aware that you benotangiy at any thing except it be against sin, or any thing which is displeasing in the sight of God. For to be angry at any thing but what displeases God, is to displease God in being ■ngry; and as far forth as you can always endeavour to shew a forgiving spirit before the sun go down. Eph. iv, 26. Therefore, my son, be not overcome hy evil, but overcome evil with good. Be not hasty in thy spirit to commit sin in thy anger, lor anger reMelh in the bosom of fools. Eccl. vii, 9. Stand in awe, and in the fear of the Lord, and sin not; but let consideration take place. Psal. iv, 4. For he that is slow to angtr is better than the mighty, saith Solomon, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Prov. xvi, 32. Hear me, your father, O ye children, let not your anger be like tinder that catches as soon as the spark is upon it, and who uses no means to slop its spreading; but is presently blown up into a furious flame, which before it is extinguished m«y do more mischief than ever jou are able to repair. For no man knows wither sinful anger may hurry him when once it hath got the mastery of him, and of ourselves we have no power to govern our sinful passions but by the grace of God through Christ we may do all things. Therefore, O Lord, through thy dear Son, have uietcy on us, take pity on us, and strengthen us. Therefore, my beloved through Christ, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which woikelh in you, both to his will and to do of his good pleasure. Therefore do all things without murinurings and disputings; that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world. Phil. ii, 12. Be careful for nothing; neither trust in your own strength, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passed) all undarstauding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil. iv, 6, 7. And as je have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him. Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colos. ii, 7, 8. There is he that is wise only in reference to temporal things, but blessed is he that is wise in both temporal and spiritual things also, there is he which delighteth in temporal things only. But blessed is he that is thankful for temporal things, but delighteth in things eternal. If ye then be lisen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sittelh on fhe right hand of

God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience. Colos. iii, 1. Therefore, my beloved children, by the Grace of God, keep yourselves from idols. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the father by him. Colos. iii, 15. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification. That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sauctification and honour. For God hath not called us unto uucleanness, but unto holiness. 1 Thes. iv, 3, 4, 7. And for all these heavenly blessings, my beloved children, pray without ceasing. Quench not the spirit. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God that your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. For faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 1 Thes. c. v, 17, 19, 21,22, 23, 24. But remember it is upon condition, and there must be obedience on our parts, and if we do not obey them we have no right to the promises of Christ. Therefore, my son, avoid every false way. Flee also youthful lusts, which wars so much against the soul. 2 Tim. ii, 22. And again, this is a true and faithful sayiug, my sou, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in might be careful to maintain good works. For these things are good and profitable unto men. But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentious, and strivings about the law, for they are unprofitable and vain. A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; knowing that he that is such is subverted. and sinncth, being condemned of himself. Tilus, iii, 3. But let us draw near will) a true heart in full assurance of failli, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. And let us hold fast the profession of our faith without waverinj;; for he is faithful that promised. Therefore let us exhort one another and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching Heb. x. 22, 23, 25. And see the danger of falling from grace, v. 215. Therefore let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for some thereby have entertained angels unawares. Gen. xviii, 2, & xix, 2. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Let your conversation be without covetousness , and be content with sucli things as ye have: for he hath said, I vtill never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, the Lord is ruy helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. Heb. xiii. Therefore let us set our affections on things above and not on things below, and there let us lay up our choicest treasure in Heaven, and seek after it as the pearl of great price. Mat. xiii, 46. For godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich iu this world often fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men iu destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of evil, which, while some coveted alter, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves thiou^h with many sorrows. I Tim. vi, 6. My son, set not thy heart upon the riches of this world, but let thy desire be on high, so that thy soul may lay bold on eternal life. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Prov. iii, 5. Behold, 1 give you good instruction, therefore take fast hold of instruction, let her not go; keep her, for she is thy life. Prov. iv, 13. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayesl be wise iu thy latter end. D

There are many devices in a man's heart, nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that s.hall stand. Prov xix, 20. And again, if thou are tired, my son, or persecuted or brought into trouble in this life, as you must expect, then cast thy burthen upon the Lord, and he shall su.tain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm. Iv, 22. And again, hear the precious words of the faithful. The Lord is rny portion, sailh my soul; therefore will I hope iu liim. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man that be bear tiie yoke in his youth. For remember, the Lord will not cast off for ever. But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men, Lam. iii, 24. Therefore, my beloved, hope iu the Lord, watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 1 Corin. xvi, 13. And the Lord shall tight for you. But, again, examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith, prove your own heart. 2 Corin. xiii, 5. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Heb. iii, 12. But seeing also that we are compassed about with .«o great a cloud of witnesses, of the truth of the word of God, let us lay aside the weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, and let us consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest we be wearied and faint in our minds. Heb. xii, I. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure, for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall. 2 Pet. i, 10. Therefore, stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Gal. c. v, 1. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Heb. xii. 14. And let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himstlf alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden. Gal. vi, 4, 5.
