hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. (Isaiah lii. 10.)

And O that thy most holy Church and people, may pray that all people which see this day of salvatiou, may embrace it, so that it may be fulfilled which is written, Lift up thine eyes round about and see all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together; and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to the windows? violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders: but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise. The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down: neither shall thy moon withdraw itself! for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended: thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. A litttle one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation. I the Lord will hasten it in his time. (Isaiah lx.) And again he exhorteth us to come, Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God; and there is none else. (chap. xlv. 22.) And again, And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. (Jer. xxxi. 34.) And again, hear the word of the Lord by Joel the prophet. (chap. ii. 28, 29, 32.) And it shall come to pass afterwards that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusa lem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the

remnant, whom the Lord shall call (See Acts ii.) And again, hear the word of the Lord by the prophet Habakkuk. (chap. ii. 14.) Where it is said, That the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. And again the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zephaniah. (chap. iii. 9.) And after a sharp reproof to the wicked for divers sins, he saith, For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent. And again, hear the word of the Lord by the prophet Malachi, and that, after he had reproved the Jews, for their irreligion and profaneness, then he saith, For from the rising of the sun, even unto the going down of the same, my name shall be great among the Gentiles: and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of hosts. (Mal. i. 11.) And again, as it is written, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you, that is the Jews, but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. (Acts xiii. 46, 47.) So we see that by the Jews irreligion and profaneness, and their provocation against God, and their despising the Gospel of Christ, I say then by this, we see that many of these holy passages of scripture aforesaid, have a great reference to this, and that is, that the everlasting Gospel of our blessed Saviour, shall be preached and set forth and offered to all the world as a free salvation, and without any exception, or restriction, or limitation. Therefore, we see that it is as free for the Gentile, as it is for the Jew, and there is no respect of persons. But still after all this let us be aware, that is, when the grace of God begins to manifest itself in the soul, then we must pray for pardon, and not indulge ourselves in sin, but walk in newness of life, according as he hath commanded us, that is, If ye love me keep my commandments. And then the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. (Isaiah xxxii. 17.) But on the other hand, Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile. But glory, honour and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.

For there is no respect of persons with God. (Rom. ii. 9,10,11.) -Who shall not fear thee O Lord God most high, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy. O remember thy dust in mercy according to thy loving-kindness, and pardon the sins of my youth; bring me not into judgment O Lord, until my soul be made completely holy, and that through the righteous merit of Christ. O be pleased O Lord to grant me thy precious grace, love, and favour, so that I may rejoice again in thy sight, and tell the world of thy goodness. I thank thee O gracious Father, because thou doth not despise the prayer of thy servant; but I know that thou hearest me when I call upon thee in sincerity and truth, and thy love hath been more to me than all my fears, and thou hast redeemed me through thy Son, from the lowest hell. Therefore I pray thee, that thy free redemption may be made manifest to all the world, through Jesus Christ our Lord. And that Thy kingdom may come: and that Thy will may be done in earth, as it is in heaven: and I pray that thy free redemption which thy holy prophets have spoken of may be offered to all the world, and that every soul may embrace it, and that they may forsake their sins and turn unto thee; and that they may believe that Thou art able and willing to save their souls alive, and to cleanse them from all unrighteousness. And Othat thy Churches which are on the earth, may be more united together in one right true and Holy Spirit; so that we may be all at last brought safe to heaven, to praise thee, in one right, true, and Holy Spirit, throughout all eternity. The Character of the Righteous.

Now the character of the People of God are clearly described in this Book, selected out of the Holy Scriptures by chapter and verse, so that you need not look far for them, because they are drawn up to your view; and if you read this little Book carefully, and examine yourselves, you may soon know, whether your characters do correspond with those blessed characters described in this Book, and if it be so with you, blessed are ye, and I hope and trust that our Lord's good-day you and I shall magnify upon that sweet verse or two, which is at the end of this Book in glory everlasting. Amen.

Now my dear friends, if you read this little Book, and pay attention to it, you may know whether your life, ways, and actions, correspond with these sweet characters which are mentioned in this Book; and I think, by the help of God, and sodoing, you may know whether you are a child of God or not: and now you may see the character of the servants of the Lord, as follows. Now we find that Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Joseph and Moses, Joshua and Samuel; and many more there are to be found that bear this character, but here I omit and pass on; but still I will endeavour, by the help of God, to exhibit and show unto you, in what way the children of God bear this character. My mouth, saith David, shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day: for I know not the number thereof. I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. (Psalm lxxi. 15.) Now if any can utter such blessed words as those, in sincerity and truth, no doubt but he bears this character. Ye that love the Lord, saith he, hate evil: so you see that we cannot love God, and sin against him, for if we do, then we cannot be true Christians: but blessed be the Lord for he preserveth the souls of his Saints he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

Rejoice in the Lord ye righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. (Psalm xxxiii. 1.) And again, here is another character of a child of God, and that is, that of Agur; now hear his humble request, Remove far from me saith he, vanity and lies: give me neither poverty, nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me. (Prov. xxx. 8.) Now you may see in this chapter, that he humbled himself, and then asked of God for things necessary for the soul and body: my friends, I am afraid that this prayer is neglected by many of us, for we often ask, and receive not, because we ask amiss, that we may consume it upon our lusts: it is right indeed that we should ask for our daily bread; as our Lord tells us. (Matt. vi. 11.) And for food and raiment, as Jacob did. (Gen. xxviii. 20.) But we must not pray for many riches, for if we do, there is a great danger of falling away to wicked lust and pride, which is an abomination to the Lord. See my little Book called the Deceitfulness of Riches. But it is said, Who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the Lord's servants? (Isaiah xlii. 19.) But if they are blind in the eyes of the world, they are not blind in the eye of God. -But speaking in reference to the character of a child of God, or to Christ himself, I say, that Godliness, is not blindness, for thus it is written, who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner's fire and like fuller's sope. (Mal. iii. 2.) Therefore, by this we may see the pure character of Christ. Be ye holy for I am holy, saith the Lord; and again, if we by the help of God, intend to let our lives tally with these blessed characters; hear what Christ saith. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matt. v. 16.) See my Book called the Example of Christ. Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when he cometh shall find sodoing. (chap. xxiv. 46.) For Saint Paul saith when speaking of the character of the people of God, We are, saith he, unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. (2 Cor. ii. 15.) So you see, that, the Lord looks upon such characters, to be somewhat like Christ, or to be his delight, as the sweetness of Christ. OI would fain pray for all the world to turn unto the Lord, for no soul can conceive, nor tell, what the Lord hath in reserve for them that love him. O behold here is another excellent character, and that is of a poor woman that sought Christ
