The prose Romance "Et Conde Lucanor" is one of the oldest literary monuments of Spain; it is the oldest collection of Novels of the Spaniards, composed during the XIVth Century; the first edition appeared at Seville, 1575. The tales are famous for the fascination of their style, and as connecting the Prose Literature of the East and West, many of the tales being derived from Moorish sources. The work was exceedingly rare, no new edition having appeared for the lasl 200 years.
