In consequence of the Act passed in the 14th & 15th years of her present Majesty's reign, cap. 76. " to extinguish the right of the Crown to deer in the New Forest, "and to give compensation in lieu thereof, and for other purposes relating to the said forest," the Commissioner in charge of the forest has considered that it might tend to assist the carrying out the objects of the Act, if the claims upon and over this forest, preferred at the last justice seat, held in 1670, were placed within the reach of those, who either from the situation of their property, or other circumstances, conceive themselves entitled to privileges over the same; he has therefore had those claims, which were preferred in Latin, carefully digested, and the material portions of them abstracted and translated, so that all persons interested in the subject may readily inform themselves with regard to the claims which were made at the last justice seat; and this the more especially as many may be led into error by depending on the accuracy of a previous Abstract of these Claims, which was published many years since, but which on being compared with the original claims, now deposited in the Chapter House, Westminster, has been found to be in many cases erroneous and in some deficient.

To the Abstract of the Claims there has been added the Royal Commission, with the articles attached, under the authority whereof the said claims were received.
