PARLEY'S MAGAZINE.

Circular to Parents, Teachers, School Committees, and all who feel an Interest in the Improvement of Youth.

It is not yet quite a year since Parley's Magazine was commenced. During that short period the number of subscribers has increased to 20,000, and the work has received, every where, the most unqualified approbation. It has also found its way to the school room; and the demand for the work, to be used in schools, is rapidly increasing.

The late Editor of the Juvenile Rambler, who, in addition to his qualifications as a writer for the young, has the advantage of many years experience as a Teacher, will henceforth assist in conducting it;-in endeavoring to make the work what all judicious parents and teachers would wish to see it become.

We propose to present, in the progress of each volume, a great variety of interesting and important topics, among which are the following.

I. Natural History — Of beasts, birds, fishes, reptiles, insects; plants, flowers, trees; the human frame, &c. II. Biography. III. Geography. IV. Travels and Voyages. V. Curiosities of Nature and Art. VI. Lessons on Objects that daily surround Children in the Parlor, Nursery, Garden, &c. Accounts of Trades and Employments. VII. Particular Duties of the Young. VIII. 'This Work is embellished with appropriate designs by Harvey, illustrative of the text, and the whole executed in a style highly creditable to the Xylographic Art in this country. The lining to the covers presents the hitherto unattempted novelty of a striking imitation of the most beautiful Mechlin Lace. An ornamental title-page emblematic of the contents of the volume, beautifully executed in burnished gold, is also among its decorative novelties.' 'It is truly worthy of commendation.' - Evening Transcript.

'It is printed and embellished very much in the style of the popular gift-books, and is a Perennial an evergreen, that will not merely be once looked at, admired and laid aside forever, but must attract notice and merit attention at all times and in all seasons.'American Traveller.

'Its chief excellence is to be found in the correct and chaste sentiments of the work, and its sound and discriminating advice.”— Lynn Mirror.

WALDIE'S CIRCULATING LIBRARY. The first number of the third volume of this periodical was issued last week, and contains Kruitzner, or the German's Tale, from the Canterbury Tales of Sophia and Harriet Lee. It is one of the most powerful stories in the English language, and will impart additional value to the already high character of the Library - the next number of which will contain the memoirs of Sir James Campbell, of Ardkinglas, written by himself at the age of eighty-five, and detailing his adventures during the Seven Years War. The Library has thus far met with great success. Its subscription list embraces more than 5000 names, and is still increasing rapidly.

POMPEII: 1 vol. 12mo; illustrated with more than 120 maps and engravings. A work upon the interesting discovery of Pompeii, accessible to all, has long been desired. There are foreign works of great research and magnificence, but those, from their price, are only accessible to a small class of readers, and therefore little has generally been known of Pompeii, except what may be gathered from the short and scattered notices of travellers. This work is intended to supply the deficiency. A detailed account of the ruins as they now exist, are given, together with a description of their former state, as far can be made out, with occasional digressions upon points connected with the history or antiquities of the place, and notices of the most curious and important articles which have been discovered.

The chief authorities which have been consulted, are the great work of M. Mazois on Pompeii; the Museo Porbonico, a periodical work now in course of publication at Naples; Sir W. Gell's Pompeiiana, and Donaldson's Pompeii. We have also had the advantage of numerous observations made on the spot, by Mr William Clarke, architect, by whom the materials for this work have been collected, and the drawings made, either from the originals or from plates in the above works. Price 1,25
