The opportunity is taken of a new edition of Essays and Reviews being required, to indicate those portions of the Volume against which certain Charges were brought in the Ecclesiastical Court, as being contrary to, or inconsistent with, the doctrines of the Church of England. The whole of those Charges, as is well known, failed to be sustained. Those brought against the passages included within single commas were withdrawn or rejected in the Court of Arches. The Charges against the passages within double commas, admitted in the Court of Arches, were in like manner either withdrawn during the hearing before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, or rejected in their Lordships' final Judgment.
