Some years ago I lighted upon a point of law which furnished a successful objection to the charge con tained in an indictment. The point arose upon the construction of a statute, and, before it came on for argument, I made what search I could for authorities in support of my contention. The difficulty I then experienced in finding cases that had a bearing on the subject led me to devote my intervals of busi ness to the collection of materials for the work which I now present to my profession.
