ADVERTISEMENT.

The present edition of the most interesting part of the works of the immortal Caledonian Bard, was projected by the late Mr Morison of Perth; and it is believed that the following considerations induced him to undertake the publication.

1st, He was ambitious of illustrating a Poet so universally admired, by a series of Characteristic Engravings. 2dly, To present to the public, in a more elegant and permanent form, many Poems of exquisite merit, that had hitherto appeared only in pamphlets or miscellaneous collections. 3dly, To rescue from oblivion a variety of both Letters and Poems that have not hitherto appeared in any collection, but which, it seems, he had good reason to believe existed in the hands of Gentlemen formerly acquainted with the lamented Bard.

The premature and sudden death of the enterprising bookseller alluded to, has precluded the attainment of the last mentioned object; but the present Editors flatter themselves that this want has been in some measure supplied by
