SCHEDULE E.

Schedule "E" contains a list of all chancery cases commenced, determined or pending, in which some State officer has been made a party and in which the State has some interest. These cases have been referred

to the prosecuting attorneys of the various counties in which they were commenced, and left in their charge.

PEOPLE v. THE WEST BRANCH ESCANABA RIVER IMPROVEMENT CO.

This is a case wherein the people of the State brought action against the West Branch Escanaba River Improvement Company for the collection of certain specific taxes. Action was brought in the Ingham circuit. Decree was made in favor of the State against said company for the amount of $886.50, including the specific tax, interest and penalty, and on October 21, 1897, an execution was issued to the sheriff of Menominee county, ordering him to forthwith levy the amount of said specific tax, interest and penalty. Settlement was made with Auditor General on December 10, 1897.

THE CONNECTICUT MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE CO. v. THE AUDITOR GENERAL AND EUGENE B. WOOD.

In this case petition was filed by the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company against Eugene B. Wood, and another for the purpose of having certain tax sales set aside and the deeds canceled. Decree was entered for petitioner in the Wayne circuit court and respondent Wood appeals. Affirmed December 21, 1897.

ISAAC E. BARNUM v. ARTHUR E. BARNES.

This is a case wherein petition was filed by Isaac E. Barnum against Arthur E. Barnes, to open a decree for a sale of land for taxes. A judg. ment was rendered by the Van Buren circuit court denying the relief sought, and petitioner brings error. Affirmed by Supreme Court September 27, 1898.
