And after this, when the evening was now come, (because it was the Preparation, that is the eve of the Sabbath) there came a rich man, of Arimathea, a City of the Jews, named Jofeph; a Noble Seuator, a good man and a Juft: he had not confented to their Councel and doing; who also himself waited for the Kingdom of God. This man came and went in boldly to Pilates and being JESus's Difciple (but fecretly, for fear of the Jews) begged the Body of JESUS. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead and calling to him the Centu rion, he askt him if he were already dead. And when he knew it of the Centurion, he gave the Body to. Jofeph. He came therefore, and took the Body of JESUS: and he bought fine linnen, and took him down, and wrapt him in a clean linnen cloth. And there came alfo Nicodemus ( he that at first came to JESUS by night)and brought a mixture of myrrhe and aloes, about a hundred pound. They took therefore the Body

Refp. Come every one that claims a fhare in the Paffion of JESUS; come, and with tears and reverence attend on this fad folemnity: cover your felves with black, in forrow for his death; and Spread ashes on your bread, in repentance for our fins: come, and the fervice you would offer his Perfon perform to bis Poor. Whatever you do to any of his little ones, you do to him. Learn, O you Great and Flonourable, to be good and just, and never confent to the councel of the wicked: Learn, O you Rich and Noble, to wait for the Kingdom of God; and employ your wealth and Power in piety for Religion, and Charity for the poor. Now, in the place where he was cru cifyed, there was a Garden; and in the Garden a new Monument, wherein was never man yet laid. And Jofeph laid the Body in his own new Tomb, which he had hewn out of the rock; and rolled a great ftone to the door of the Sepulcher, น 4

and departed. And that day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew on, There therefore, because of the Jews Preparation day, they laid JESUS; for, the Sepulcher was nigh at hand. And the Women who came with him from Galilee, following after, faw the Sepul cher, and how his Body was laid. And returning, they prepared spices and ointments; and refted the Sabbath according to the commandment. Now, the next day after the Preparation, the Chief Priefts and Pharifees came together to Pilate, faying, Sir, we remember That Seducer faid while he was yet a live, After three days I will rife again. Com mand therefore the Sepulcher to beguard ed till the third day; left perhaps his Difciples come and feal him, and fay to the People, he is rifen from the dead: and the laft errour fhall be worse then the firft. Pilate faid to them, You have a Guard; go, guard as you know. And they, departing, made. the Sepulcher fure; fealing the ftone, with Watchmen. Refp. And, when the Sabbath was past, the first day of the week, very early in the morning, while it was yet dark, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought fweet fpices to come and anoint JESUS. And they came to the Sepulcher at the rifing of the Sun, bringing the fpices they had prepared. And they faid among them felves, Who fhall roll away the ftone for us from the door of the monument? And behold there was a great earth. quake for the Angel of our Lord de. fcended

fcended from Heaven, and came and rolled back the ftone, and fat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his garment as fnow; and for fear of him the watch-men were frighted and became as dead.

Refp. Waken our drowsy beads, O Lord,. that early in the morning we may rife to feek thee's raise up our flaggish hearts, that we may prepare our richest spices of prayer and meditations to prefent thee. Let us not lose our courage for any difficulty we meet with in our way! but bape in our Lord, and go on in our duty; and he will remove it. Make in, O gracious God, first diligent in our own endeavours, and then religious in trusting thy Providences we know theult rather work a Miracle, which thy Power can do then forfake thy fervants, which thy Goodness cannot Let us
