The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man that is a houfholder, who went out early in the morning to hire workmen for his Vineyard: And, when he had agreed with the workmen for a Penny a day, he sent them into his Vineyard. And, going forth about the third hour, he faw others ftanding idle in the Market-place; and faid to them, Go you alio into my Vineyard, and what fhall be juft I will give you. And they went their way. Again, he went out about the fixth and ninth hour, and did likewife. And, about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others ftanding, and faith to them, Why ftand you here all the day idle? They fay to him, Becaufe no man has hired us. He faith to them, Go you also into my Vineyard. And, when it was evening, the Lord of the Vineyard says to his Bayliff, Call the Workmen and give them their Wages, beginning from the lat to the firft. So, when they were come that had entered about the ele venth hour, they received every man a Penny. But, when the firft alfo came, they supposed they should have received

more; and they likewife receiv'd every man a penny. And, when they had taken it,they murmur'd against the good man of the houfe, faying, thefe laft have wrought. but one hour, and thou halt made them equal to us, who have bora the burthen and heat of the day. But he answered one of them,and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didft not thou agree with me for a Penny? Take that is thine, and go thy way. I will give to this last even as to thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? isthine eye evil, because I am good? So, the laft fhall be firft, and the first laft; for, many are called, but, few chofen. Refp. Then JESUS came; and found he had already lain in the Grave four days. (Now, Bethany was nigh Jerufalem; about fifteen furlongs off.) And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their Brother. Martha, therefore, as foon as The heard that JESUS was coming, went to meet Him: but Mary fat at home.
