TH PSALM XXIV. 1 THE fpacious earth is all the Lord's, the Lord's her fulness is; The world, and they that dwell therein, by fov'reign right are his. 2 He fram'd and fix'd it on the seas; and his almighty hand, Upon inconftant floods, has made the ftable fabric stand. 3 But for himself, this Lord of all one chosen feat defign'd; O! who shall to that facred hill deferv'd admittance find? 4 The man, whofe hands and heart are pure, whofe thoughts from pride are free; Who honest poverty prefers to gainful perjury. 5 This, this is he, on whom the Lord fhall fhow'r his bleffings down; Whom God, his Saviour, fhall vouchsafe 6 Such is the race of faints, by whom 7 Erect your heads, eternal gates; The King of Glory: fee! he comes 8 Who is the King of Glory? who? 9 Erect your heads, ye gates; unfold The King of Glory fee! he comes 10 Who is the King of Glory? who? Of glory he alone is King, who is with glory crown'd. I lift my heart and voice; nor let my foes rejoice. 3 Thofe who on thee rely, Be that the fhameful lot of fuch 4, 5 To me thy truth impart, For thou art he that brings me help; on thee I wait all day. 6 Thy mercies, and thy love, O Lord, recal to mind; And graciously continue ftill, as thou wert ever, kind. 7 Let all my youthful crimes. be blotted out by thee; And, for thy wond'rous goodness' fake, in mercy think on me. 8 His mercy, and his truth, the righteous Lord difplays, 9 He thofe in juftice guides, who his direction feek; And in his facred paths fhall lead the humble and the meek. 10 Through all the ways of God both truth and mercy fhine, To fuch as, with religious hearts, to his bleft will incline. PART II. II Since mercy is the grace, that most exalts thy fame, Forgive my heinous fin, O Lord, 12 Whoe'er, with humble fear, Shall find the Lord a faithful guide, 13 His quiet foul with peace And by his num'rous race the land 14 For God to all his faints his fecret will imparts, And does his gracious cov'nant write in their obedient hearts. 15 To him I lift my eyes, and wait his timely aid, Who breaks the ftrong and treach'rous fnare, which for my feet was laid. 16 O! turn, and all my griefs, in mercy, Lord, redrefs; For I am compafs'd round with woes, and plung'd in deep distress. 17 The forrows of my heart to mighty fums increase; O! from this dark and dismal state my troubled foul release! 18 Do thou, with tender eyes, my fad affliction fee ; Acquit me, Lord, and from my guilt entirely fet me free. 19 Confider, Lord, my foes, how vaft their numbers grow! What lawless force and rage they use, what boundless hate they fhow! 20 Protect, and fet my foul from their fierce malice free; Nor let me be afham'd, who place my ftedfast truft in thee. 21 Let all my righteous acts to full perfection rife; Because my firm and conftant hope on thee alone relies. 22 To Ifrael's chofen race continue ever kind; And, in the midst of all their wants, let them thy fuccour find. JUD PSALM XXVI. UDGE me, O Lord, for I the paths I cannot fail, who all my trust repofe on thee, my God. 2, 3 Search thou my heart, whofe innocence will shine the more 'tis try'd ; For I have kept thy grace in view, and made thy truth my guide. 4 I never for companions took, the idle or prophane; 5 No hypocrite, with all his arts, 6 I'll wash my hands in innocence, 7, 8 My thanks I'll publifh there, and tell That feat affords me most delight, 11 But I will walk in paths of truth, 12 In spite of all affaulting foes, I And shall furvive among thy faints, thy praises to refound. WH PSALM XXVII. HOM fhould I fear, fince God to me is faving health and light? Since ftrongly he my life fupports, what can my foul affright? 2 With fierce intent my flesh to tear, when foes befet me round, They ftumbled, and their haughty crefts were made to ftrike the ground. 3 Through him my heart, undaunted, dares with mighty hofts to cope; Through him, in doubtful straits of war, 4 Henceforth, within his house to dwell His wondrous beauty there to view, 5 For there I may with comfort rest, And fafe, as on a rock, abide 6 Whilft God o'er all my haughty foes 7 Continue, Lord, to hear my voice, In mercy my complaints receive, nor my request deny. 8 When us to feek thy glorious face thou kindly doft advise; 9 "Thy glorious face I'll always feek," my grateful heart replies. Then hide thou not thy face, O Lord, nor me in wrath reject; My God and Saviour, leave not him thou didst fo oft protect. 10 Though all my friends, and kindred too, their helpless charge forfake; Yet thou, whofe love excels them all, wilt care and pity take. 11 Inftruct me in thy paths, O Lord; my ways directly guide; Left envious men, who watch my steps, fhould see me tread aside. 12 Lord, disappoint my cruel foes; defeat their ill defire, Whose lying lips, and bloody hands, against my peace confpire. 13 I trufted that my future life should with thy love be crown'd; |
