or Sureties, enter into Bond to His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, in a Sum equal to Treble the Amount of the Bounty computed on the Tonnage of fuch Bufs or Veffel (which Bond any Officer of the Fishery is hereby authorized and required to take, and which fhall be exempt from the Duties on Stamped Vellum, Paper and Parchment) for the faithful dealing of the Matter and Crew of fuch Bufs or Veffel in refpect of fuch Voyage and Fishing; all which Requifites having been duly performed, the proper Officer of the Fishery, by Intrument in Writing under his Hand (fetting forth the Particulars, which fhall appear by the Notice and Certificate indorfed thereon as herein mentioned, and alfo that Bond has been given according to the Direction of this Act) fhall give to the Mafter of fuch Bufs or Veffel license to proceed on his Voyage to the Rendezvous of the faid Deep Sea British White Herring Fishery.

XVI. And be it further enacted, That upon the Arrival of fuch Bufs or Veffel at Braffy Sound, the Rendezvous hereinbefore provided for the faid Deep Sea Fishery, the Mafter thereof fhall enter fuch Bufs or Veffel with the Superintendant of the faid Fishery, and fhall produce to him his Licence, and alfo (if required) the Regifter or Certificate of Registry of the faid Bufs or Veffel, and fhall deliver to him a Statement in Writing on what Day the faid Bufs or Veffel failed from the Port where the cleared out, and what Quantities of Salt, Barrels, Nets, with Materials for mounting the fame, and of Provifions refpectively, fhall be then on board fuch Bufs or Veffel, and to what Port in Great Britain he intends to return for the Discharge of the faid Bufs or Veffel; and the faid Superintendant fhall then go on board fuch Bufs or Veffel, and as far as Circumftances will permit, fhall inform himself whether the faid Stores and Provifions are actually on board thereof, and fhall mufter and take an Account in Writing of the Number, Names, and Defcriptions of the Crew thereof, which fhall be entered at the Foot or on the Back of the Licence; and if he fhall be fatisfied that fuch Bufs or Veffel is completely ftored, and has on board the Number of Men required by this Act, he fhall, by a Certificate under his Hand, declare the faid Bufs or Veffel to be entitled to commence the faid Deep Sea White Herring Fishery for the Tonnage Bounty.

XVII. And be it further enacted, That the Herrings taken, cured, and packed on each Day by the Crew of fuch Bufs or Veffel, fhall be diftinguished from all other Herrings by a Mark or Marks, Character or Characters, to be fet on the Barrel or Barrels in which the fame fhall be packed, of fuch Description and in fuch Manner as fhall be prefcribed by any Regulation to be made by the Commiffioners for the Fishery by virtue of this Act, and fhall denote on what Day fuch Herrings were fo taken, cured, and packed, and whether the fame were cured and packed gutted, or were cured and packed ungutted, and Herrings gutted after the Day when the fame were taken fhall be packed feparately from other gutted Herrings, and shall be diftinguished by a Mark or Character to be fet as aforefaid, which Marks or Characters fhail not be at any Time effaced or altered. XVIII. And be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the Superintendant of the Fifhery, or any Perfon or Perfons acting by his Orders, at all Times whenever he hall think fit, either at Sea, during the Continuance of the Fishery, or after the Return from the Fishery, to go on board any of the Veffels employed in the Fishery

under his Superintendance, to infpect the Licence and Certificate of Registry of fuch Veffel, and the Journal kept by the Mafter, purfuant to the Directions of this Act (all which the Master of every fuch Bufs or Veffel, on being thereunto required, fhall forthwith produce and deliver to the faid Superintendant for his Infpection and Examination, and the faid Superintendant is hereby empowered to detain any fuch Bufs or Veffel till all or any of the faid Documents demanded by him shall be fo produced or delivered to him) and to afcertain whether the Number of Men hereby required to be on board the faid Bufs or Veff:l be actually employed therein during the Fishing, and until they be difcharged according to the Directions of this Act, and to infpect the Manner in which the Herrings are taken, cured, and packed, and whether the Mafter and other Perfons on board the fame are in all Refpects carrying on and profecuting the faid Fishery in the Manner hereby required; and if any Perfon or Perfons fhall impede or obftruct, or attempt to impede or obftruct, any other Perfon or Perfons in the lawful Profecution of the faid Fishery, the faid Superintendant fhall require fuch Perfon or Perfons fo impeding or obftructing, or attempting to impede or obftruct any other Perfon or Perfons, to defift from fo doing; and if fuch Perfon or Perfons fo required to defift, fhall difregard fuch Requifition, it shall be lawful for the faid Superintendant to employ fuch Force as fhall be neceffary to compel him or them to preferve Order; and if it fhall appear to the faid Superintendant that the Number of Men hereby required to be on board each Bufs or Veffel, were not on board thereof at any Time when they ought to have been, according to the Regulations of this Act, or that the Mafter or any Part of the Crew are or were not in all Refpects carrying on and profecuting the Fishery in the Manner hereby required, or had impeded or obftructed, or attempted to impede or obftruct, any other Perfon or Perfons in the lawful Profecution of the faid Fifhery, the faid Superintendant fhall report the fame fully and particularly to the Commiffioners for the Herring Fishery to be appointed by virtue of this Act, and fhall deliver one Copy of fuch Report under his Hand, to the Mafter of fuch Bufs or Veffel, and fhall tranfmit another Copy to the faid Commiflioners by the firft Opportunity; and if any Perfon or Perfons fhall refift or obftruct fuch Superintendant, or any Perfon or Perfons acting under him in the Execution of any of the Powers to him or them given by this Act, every Perfon fo offending fhall forfeit and pay the Sum of One hundred Pounds: Provided always, that it fhall be lawful for the Mafter of any Bufs or Veffel licensed and cleared out for the faid Deep Sea Fishery, at any Time during the Continuance of the Fifhing as limited by this Act, to tranfhip into any other Veffel not being licensed for the faid Fishery purfuant to the Directions of this Act, any Quantity of Herrings which fhall have been taken by the Crew of fuch Bufs or Veffel, and by them cured and packed in Barrels on board the fame, and the faid Herrings fo tranfhipped fhall be conveyed to and landed at the Port in Great Britain where fuch Bufs or Veffel fhall be intended to be cleared inwards, and fhall be deemed and taken to be Part of the Cargo of fuch Bufs or Veffel; provided that the Mafter of the Veffel in which fuch Herrings fhall be carried into Port, fhall bring with the faid Herrings a Copy of the Licence of the Bufs or Veffel out of which the faid Herrings were received, with a Declaration under the Hand of the Mafter thereof (indorfed on fuch Copy) fetting forth the

Number of Barrels of Herrings fo tranfhipped out of fuch Bufs or Veffel, into fuch other Veffel as aforefaid, that the fame were taken and cured as aforefaid, fpecifying the Date of the taking, curing, and packing of the Herrings contained in each Barrel, and whether the fame were cured and packed gutted, or were cured and packed ungutted, and diftinguifhing each Barrel by the Marks or Characters (to be fpecified in fuch Declaration) which fhall be fet on the Barrels in which the faid Herrings fhall be packed refpectively, as alfo the Name of the Veffel on board of which the fame fhall be tranffhipped, the Name of the Mafter thereof, and the Name of the Port for which the fame were fo put on board, which Declaration shall be produced to the Officer of the Fifhery at fuch Port, before any of the faid Herrings fhall be unfhipped or laid on Land; and the Mafter of fuch Veffel fhall make Oath at the Foot of the faid Declaration, before the faid Officer, that the Herrings on board the faid Veffel are the very fame which were tranfhipped out of fuch Bufs or Veffel, as mentioned in the faid Declaration; and fuch Officer shall attend the landing thereof, and take account of the Herrings landed out of the faid Veffel, together with the Marks on the Barrels containing the fame.

XIX. And be it enacted, That if any Bufs or Veffel fhall not arrive at the Rendezvous of the faid Deep Sea Fishery till after the Twenty-fecond Day of June, and fhall not begin to fifh till after the Twenty-fourth Day of the fame Month in any Year, and it fhall be made appear to the Satisfaction of the Commiffioners for the Herring Fishery appointed by virtue of this Act, that fuch Bufs or Veffel did really and bona fide take her Departure for the faid Rendezvous Five Days at the leaft before the said Twenty-second Day of June; or if any fuch Bufs or Veffel which fhall have been licensed for the faid Deep Sea Fishery, and for which a Certificate fhall have been obtained at the Place of Rendezvous to entitle the Crew to commence the Fishery, fhall at any Time before the Fifteenth Day of September in the fame Year, be compelled to discontinue fishing by Strefs of Weather, Lofs of Nets or Stores, or other unavoidable Caufe, before the Quantity of Herrings fhall have been taken and cured as required by this Act, and to come into any Port, Harbour, or Anchorage on the Coaft of Great Britain or Ireland, the Owner of fuch Bufs or Veffel fhall not for fuch Caufe be precluded from receiving the Tonnage Bounty; provided the Mafter thereof, in the Cafe laft-mentioned, thall give immediate Notice of fuch his Arrival, and of the Distress or Neceffity which forced him to take Shelter in fuch Port, Harbour, or Anchorage, and fhall make Proof thereof by the Oaths of himfelf and his Mate before any Officer of the Fishery at fuch Port or Place, which Oaths fuch Officer is hereby authorized to administer; and if there fhall not be any Officer of the Fishery at the Port or Place, the Oaths fhall then be adminiftered by any Justice of the Peace, and the fame fhall be written at the Foot or on the Back of the Licence, and fhall be fubfcribed by the Parties making the fame: Provided alfo, that the Mafter of fuch Bufs or Veffel fhall ufe hisutmoft Endeavours to refit the faid Bufs or Veffel, and to take on board the Supplies, and the Number of Men neceffary to enable him to continue his fifhing Voyage (as the Cafe may require), and fhall accordingly return to and continue the Fishing in Manner herein directed, and fhall in either of the Cafes above-mentioned continue to fish 48 Geo. Bounty, fhall keep a Journal.

in Manner aforefaid, after the Fifteenth Day of September, until the Expiration of fuch a Space of Time as, when added to the Time during which fuch Bufs or Veffel fhall have fished before that Day, fhall be equal to the Period which extends from the Twenty-fourth Day of June to the Fifteenth Day of September next enfuing, unless the Crew thereof fhall have taken, cured, and packed before the Expiration of that Time, fuch Quantity of Herrings as is hereinbefore mentioned; any Thing herein contained to the contrary notwithftanding.

XX. And be it further enacted, That the Bounty granted by this A&t fhall not be allowed or paid in refpect of any Bufs or Veffel which fhall not have had on board the Number of Men hereinbefore required, from the Time when the Crew thereof shall have been mustered at the Rendezvous by the Superintendant as aforefaid, during the whole Continuance of the Fishing, and until the faid Bufs or Veffel completed her Fishing in Manner prescribed by this Act, and until fhe fhall return to a Port in Great Britain, and the Crew shall be there mustered by the proper Officer of the Fishery at fuch Port, before whom the Mafter and Mate shall make their Oaths that the Number of Men required by this Act were on board fuch Bufs or Veffel during the whole of the Time aforefaid, unless any Diminution of the faid Number of Men shall have been occafioned by Death, Sickness, or actual Desertion; and in the Event of any fuch Diminution of the Crew, that the Matter ufed his utmoft Endeavours to keep up and have on board the full Number of Men by this Act required, from the Day when the Crew were mustered at the Rendezvous, until the Day when the Crew fhall have been again mustered on the Return of the Bufs or Veffel into a Port of Great Britain, which Oaths fuch Officer is hereby authorized and required to adminifter, and the fame fhall be written at the Foot or on the Back of the Licence, and fubfcribed by the Parties making the fame; and the said Officer fhall there alfo certify the Number, Names, and Defcription of the Men who were on board the faid Bufs or Veffel, upon the Muster made by him as herein directed.

XXI. And be it further enacted, That the Master of every Bufs or Veffel in refpect whereof the Tonnage Bounty fhall be claimed by virtue of this A&t, fhall keep a Journal, in which all Tranfactions and Occurrences fhall be inferted every Day during the whole Courfe of the Voyage, from the Time of beginning to put on board the Veffel her Stores or Provifions, to the Time of her returning into a Port in Great Britain for the Difcharge of her Cargo, fpecifying the Quantity of Stores and Provifions of each Sort put on board before the Departure of the Veffel from the Port where the was fitted out, the Time of her Arrival at the Rendezvous, and there being permitted to commence Fishing, the Number of Men taken on board, at what Place or Places refpectively, the Winds and Weather, the Staany, where tion of the Veffel each Day at Noon, and the Places, if the put in, and the Caufes thereof, the Number of Barrels of Herrings taken, and the Number thereof cured and packed every Day, diftinguishing Herrings cured and packed gutted, from Herrings cured and packed ungutted, and Herrings gutted on the Day when they were taken from Herrings gutted afterwards, fpecifying alfo the Mark or Marks fet on each Barrel of Herrings fo taken, cured, and packed refpectively, pursuant to the Directions of this Act; alfo

the Number of Barrels of Herrings (if any) with the refpective Marks thereon, tranfhipped into any other Veffel for the Purpofe of being carried into Port, with the Name of fuch Veffel, the Name of the Mafter thereof, and the Port to which fhe was bound; the Death, Difability, or Desertion of any of the Crew, and the Endeavours used to supply the Places of fuch Perfons.

XXII. And be it further enacted, That upon the Return of any fuch Bufs or Veffel to any Port of Great Britain, where the Cargo thereof is intended to be landed, the proper Officer of the Fishery fhall immediately go on board and view the Condition of the Veffel and of her Lading, and the Malter fhall forthwith deliver up to fuch Officer his Licence, with the feveral Certificates and the Oaths required to be taken, written at the Foot or on the Back thereof, and alfo his Journal figned by himself, and fhall verify upon Oath before fuch Officer the Truth of the faid Journal fo delivered up, and fhall alfo make Oath before faid Officer in the following Terms; that is to fay,

ed by the Crew of the faid Bufs or Veffel have been unfhipped or
