The sinner is nearer hell; the believer is nearer heaven! + me for reflection and thought this is! What a How shall we begin this new year? With heart-searchings and prayer, and confession for all the failings and sins of the last year; with prayer for pardon for the past, and grace and strength for the future; with resolutions to begin with the new year a new life of activity and zeal for God's glory, and the salvation of our own souls. Is the work that Are we regenerated Are we strong and How shall we spend this new year? What shall we not have to do, if we only endeavour to carry out the two objects just mentioned? How would we now wish that we had spent the time which is already past? Let this give us some idea of what we ought to be doing. we were made for already well done? and renewed to the heavenly nature? established in grace ? Is the love of Christ shed abroad in our hearts, and constraining us? Have we made sure of pardon and salvation? Are our hearts in heaven, and our daily conversation there? And are we ready, with wellgrounded hope and peace, to welcome death, and appear in judgment? Let this new year be employed in the furthering of these things. B |
