Mr. Parker addressed the senate, manifesting his accep tance of the office, and took the chair.

On motion of Mr. Bartlett,

The Senate proceeded to the choice of a clerk, and William H. Y. Hackett was elected.

On motion of Mr. Wallace,

The Senate proceeded to the choice of Assistant Clerk, and Benjamin B. French was elected.

On motion of Mr. Parsons,

The Senate proceeded to the choice of Door Keeper, and Jewett Bishop was elected.

William H. Y. Hackett was sworn faithfully to perform the duties of his office.

Benjamin B. French was sworn faithfully to perform the duties of his office.

On motion of Mr. Plumer,

Resolved, that the rules and regulations of the Senate for the last year be adopted as the rules and regulations of the Senate for the present session, or until otherwise ordered.

On motion of Mr. Wallace,

Ordered, that the Clerk be directed to notify the House of Representatives that the Senate have assembled, been qualified, and have chosen the Hon. Nahum Parker, President, William H. Y. Hackett, Esq. Clerk, and Benjamin B. French, Esq. Assistant Clerk, and are ready to proceed to business.

On motion of Mr. Plumer,

Resolved, that a Committee be appointed to report rules and regulations for, the government of the Senate the pres

ent session.

A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Read, of Amherst.

"Mr. President,

I'am directed to inform the Senate, that the House of Representatives have assembled, and have elected their con

stitutional officers, and are ready to proceed to the business

of the session."

And he withdrew.

On motion of Mr. Steele,

The Senate adjourned.

AFTERNOON.-Ordered, that Mr. Plumer, Mr. Parsons, and Mr. Wallace, be the committee to report rules and regulations for the government of the Senate the present session. A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Chadwick, their clerk.

"Mr. President,

The house of Representatives have passed a joint resolution, appointing a committee to join such committee as may be appointed on the part of the Senate, to wait on His Excellency the Governor, and inform him that quorums of both branches of the Legislature have assembled, and have cho. sen their constitutional officers, are duly organized, and are ready to receive any communication he may please to make, in which they request the concurrence of the Senate." And he withdrew.

On motion of Mr. Bartlett,

Resolved, that the senate do concur in the appointment of a committee on their part, agreeably to the resolution last received from the House of Representatives.

Ordered, that Mr. Poole be the committee on the part of the Senate.

A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Peabody, of Exeter.

"Mr. President,

I am directed to inform the Senate, that the House of Representatives are now ready to meet the Senate in convention for the purpose of proceeding in the elections agreeably to the provisions of the constitution."

And he withdrew.
