Resolved, That the chair appoint a committee of three to ascertain and report by what authority, and under whose directions, the seats of various members of this Senate have been changed within the last two days;

Mr. Wagar moved that the Senate proceed to the election of a President pro tem;

Which motion prevailed.

The election of President pro tem was then proceeded with, and the roll being called, the Senators voted as follows:

The President announced that Robert B. Loomis, having received a majority of all the votes of the members elect, was duly elected President pro tem of the Senate.

The President appointed Senators Wagner, Maitland and Blakeslee a committee who escorted the President pro tem elect to the President's chair. The President pro tem then addressed the Senate as follows: Mr. President and Gentlemen of the Senate:

I have no language at my command to adequately convey to you my deep sense of the honor conferred upon me by your action here today, in electing me to the position of President pro tem of the Senate. To be elected by the constituency of any of the various districts of our State to the position of Senator is in itself an honor. To be selected by one's associates to preside over the deliberations of this body in the absence of the Lieutenant Governor is an added honor, and I wish you one and all to know how sincerely I appreciate it.

It will be my purpose, so far as I may be called upon to perform the duties of the office, to act with strict fairness and impartiality toward each and every member of this Senate. I ask in advance your patience and your forbearance. Let us hope for a harmonious and business-like session of this body. Without taking more of your time I ask you, Senators, what is the further pleasure of the Senate?

Mr. Maitland moved that the Senate take a recess until 4 o'clock p. m.; Which motion prevailed.

A quorum present. The Sergeant-at-Arms announced a committee from the House who informed the Senate that the House was organized and ready to proceed to business.

The Sergeant-at-Arms announced the committee appointed on the part of the Senate to wait on the Governor and inform him that the Senate was duly organized and ready to proceed to business, who reported they had performed the duty assigned them and that the Governor would communicate with the Senate in writing.

Report accepted and committee discharged.

The Sergeant-at-Arms announced the committee of the Senate appointed to wait on the House and inform that body that the Senate was organized and ready to proceed with business, who reported that they had performed that duty and asked to be discharged.
