CCXI. "REMEMBER THY CREATOR." R EMEMBER thy Creator" While youth's fair spring is bright, Before thy cares are greater, Before comes age's night; While yet the sun shines o'er thee, While stars the darkness cheer, While life is all before thee, "Remember thy Creator" "Thy great Creator fear.” Samuel F. Smith. CCXII. SABBATH EVENING. OFTLY fades the twilight ray Gently as life's setting sun, When the Christian's course is run. Night her solemn mantle spreads Peace is on the world abroad; Still the Spirit lingers near, Saviour, may our Sabbaths be Where the Sabbath ne'er shall close. CCXIII. SUCCESS OF THE GOSPEL. THE HE morning light is breaking; The sons of earth are waking To penitential tears: Each breeze that sweeps the ocean Of nations in commotion, Rich dews of grace come o'er us, Are opening every hour: See heathen nations bending While sinners, now confessing, And seek the Saviour's blessing,- Blest river of salvation, Pursue thy onward way; Triumphant reach their home; Stay not till all the holy Proclaim, "The Lord is come." Samuel F. Smith. CCXIV. THE SINNER AT THE JUDGMENT. W HEN thy mortal life is fled, When the death-shades o'er thee spread, When is finish'd thy career, Sinner, where wilt thou appear? When the world has pass'd away, When the Judge descends in light, What shall soothe thy bursting heart, While the Holy Ghost is nigh, Then shall peace thy spirit cheer; Then in heaven shalt thou appear. Samuel F. Smith. CCXV. SELF-CONSECRATION IN BAPTISM. W HILE in this sacred rite of Thine Shine o'er the waters, Dove divine, All glory be to Him whose life And makes us meet for heaven. |
