Krishna Chandra College, Hetampur.

This Institution, founded in the name of her father-in-law by Rani Padmasundari Debi of Hetampur, and opened on the 27th June 1897, is situated at Hetampur, a village about 14 miles from Suri, on the new Railway line between Ondal and Sainthia. The place is reputed to be healthy and has a relatively dry climate; and having none of the distractions of large towns is specially suited for the development of a healthy collegiate life.

The College building is a handsome structure formerly used for the worship of the goddess Saraswati. By a trust deed the Proprietress has endowed the College with an income of Rs. 6,100 per annum chargeable on certain of her estates in the district of Birbhum and the Santhal Purganas. The management of the College has recently been made over to a Committee.

The tuition fee of the College has recently been raised from Rs. 2-8 to Rs. 3 per month. Those who pass the Entrance Examination in the 1st Division are generally admitted as free students; and applications from poor students for free studentships always receive careful attention of the authorities. The number of students in the classes being limited, they receive an exceptional amount of individual attention. Regular exercises are set to students which are corrected and returned. Two scholarships each of Rs. 5 a month tenable in this College for two years are given in the names of Kumars Satyaniranjan and Mahimaniranjan Chakravarti to two students, who pass the Entrance Examination in the 1st Division and stand next to the Government junior scholars in the district of Birbhum.

There is a Hostel attached to the College, pleasantly situated outside the village, and is under the charge of a resident Superintendent. The monthly charge for each boarder amounts to about Rs. 6 per month. There is a Medical Officer to look after the health of the boarders.

Monghyr Diamond Jubilee College.

AFFILIATED, 1898.

The Institution was founded as a Government Zila School in 1854, under the control of the Director of Public Instruction, Bengal, and was managed by a District Committee. It continued under that management up to March, 1892, when, in pursuance of the policy recommended by the Education Commission and adopted by the Government of India, the management of the school was vested in a Joint Committee consisting of members returned by the District Board and the Municipality, with the District Magistrate as its President. Under the management of the Joint Committee the Institution rose to a first-class school in 1897.

To commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Most Gracious Majesty's benign and peaceful reign, it was resolved at a public meeting that the most appropriate way to celebrating the happy event would be to found a College by the amalgamation of the three local schools, viz., Zila School, Kamaleshwari Prosad Institution (a High English School maintained entirely at the cost of Rai Kamaleshwari Prosad Singh Bahadur, Proprietor), and the V. J. School; and, in pursuance of that resolution, the amalgamation of the schools took place on the 1st September, 1897. Subscriptions were liberally contributed for the purpose of establishing the College, and amongst them may be chiefly mentioned the following
