WHAT THEY SAY WHO HAVE USED IT.

BOSTON, Sept. 21, 1886. DR. P. W. SOULE: Dear Sir,- In response to your request for my opinion about your new "Paul" stethoscope, I will say that, having tried it in a number of cases, I am greatly pleased with it. I have hitherto, like most others, given preference to the Cammann, but believe that henceforth I shall, as a rule, substitute yours in daily practice, as it is in some respects superior. You have certainly improved in neatness of appearance on the imported French original, and, what is of far more consequence, yours works much better. It is the most comfortable and best instrument made.

W. C. Goodno, M.D., professor of Pathology Medical College of Philadelphia, both uses my

DR. P. W. SOULE: Dear Sir, I have now used your new "Paul" Vacuum Stethoscope for several months, and I am free to say that I am very much pleased with it. With it I can locate and distinguish the more delicate cardiac murmurs, and other abnormal sounds, with absolute accuracy.

Not the least advantage of it is its neatness, small size, and non-liability of getting out of repair. EDWIN M. HALE, Author of "Lectures on Diseases of Heart," etc. 313 MADISON AVE., NEW YORK, Jan. 29, 1887. DR. P. W. Soule, For the past few days I have been experimenting with your improved "Paul" stethoscope, and to-day gave the students at my clinic an opportunity to use it and compare results with those obtained from the "Cammann " now so generally used. Their conclusion was that the sounds generated in the chest were better conveyed to the ears through your instrument than through the "Cammann." This too is my own opinion, and I am satisfied that in some respects it is superior to the stethoscopes in general use. It is particularly useful in auscultatory percussion, from the fact that both hands are at liberty. For this method of percussion I have long felt the need of something of this kind. Yours very truly, J. W. DOWLING.

Prof. of Phys. Diag., Dis. of the Heart and Lungs, and Clin. Med., N.Y. Hom. Med. Coll. Any part of the instrument will be furnished upon application.

The whole comes in a durable cloth box, and will be sent C.O.D. to any address, or, by mail, to any part of the United States, upon receipt of price ($3), and necessary postage (7 cents). All remittances should be made by check or P.O. order.

The Medical Advance.

The Largest Monthly Magazine in the Homœopathic
School.

It is printed with new type, on heavy tinted paper, contains ninety-six pages per month, thus making two volumes per year of nearly six hundred pages each. It advocates the use of the single remedy,

THE HOMEOPATHY OF HAHNEMANN, and aims to present both sides of every medical question; thus, in the conflict of opinions, enabling the reader to judge on which side the truth lies.

Among its contributors and writers are to be found some of the ablest practitioners and best known and most successful men in our ranks.

It will continue to denounce the popular medical error that there are two kinds of Homœopaths - the "high" and "low dilutionists". - in our ranks. This error assumes that all Homœopaths select the similimum in the same manner, which is

untrue.

While publishing model cures in clinical medicine, it will make a specialty of

MATERIA MEDICA,

the most important study in our school. Every new proving will be found in its pages, and a lecture by one of the most popular teachers our school has produced will be given every month. A careful study of this department will make every physician a better and more successful prescriber. Try it for a year. Specimen copies free. Address

Liquid Beef Tonic.

AN INVALUABLE AID IN THE TREATMENT OF ALL CASES OF DEBILITY.

ENDORSED BY SCORES OF PHYSICIANS.

ESSENTIALLY DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER BEEF TONICS.

OLDEN'S LIQUID BEEF TONIC consists of the Extract of Beef (by Baron Liebig's process), spirit rendered non-injurious to the most delicate stomach by extraction of Fusel Oil, soluble Citrate of Iron, Cinchona, Gentian, and simple aromatics. An official analysis of this preparation by the eminent chemist ARTHUR HILL HASSALL, M. D., F. R. S., and an endorsement by SIR ERASMUS WILSON, F. R. S., is printed on the label of each bottle.

In the treatment of all cases of Debility, Convalescence from severe illness, Anæmia, Malarial Fever, Chlorosis, Incipient Consumption, Lack of Nerve Tone, and of the Alcohol and Opium Habits, and all maladies requiring a Tonic Nutrient, it is superior to all other preparations.

It acts directly on the sentient gastric nerves, stimulating the follicles to secretion, and gives to weakened individuals that first prerequisite to improvement, an appetite.-By the urgent request of several eminent members of the medical profession, I have added to each wineglassful of this preparation two grains of SOLUBLE CITRATE OF IRON, and which is designated on the label, WITH IRON, No. 1;" while the same preparation, WITHOUT IRON, is designated on the label as "No. 2."

I will, upon application, send a sample bottle of COLDEN'S LIQUID BEEF TONIC to any physician in regular standing. Please ask your Dispensing Druggist (if he has not already a supply) to order it. In prescribing this preparation physicians should be particular to mention "COLDEN'S," viz: "EXT. CARNIS FL. COMP. (COLDEN)." It is put up in pint bottles and CAN BE HAD OF WHOLESALE AND RETAIL DRUGGISTS GENERALLY THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES.

Contains The Essential Elements to the Animal Organization - Potash and Lime;

The Oxidizing Agents-Iron and Manganese;
The Tonics-Quinine and Strychnine;

And the Vitalizing Constituent - Phosphorus.;
Combined in the form of a Syrup, with slight alkaline reaction.

It Differs in Effect from all others, being pleasant to taste, acceptable to the stomach, and harmless under prolonged use.

It has sustained a High Reputation in America and England for efficiency in the treatment of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Chronic Bronchitis, and other affections of the respiratory organs, and is employed also in various nervous and debilitating diseases with success.

Its Curative Properties are largely attributable to Stimulant, Tonic, and Nutritive qualities, whereby the various organic functions are recruited.

In Cases where innervating constitutional treatment is applied, and tonic treatment is desirable, this preparation will be found to act with safety and satisfaction.

Its Action is Prompt; stimulating the appetite and the digestion, it promotes assimilation, and enters directly into the circulation with the food products.

The Prescribed Dose produces a feeling of buoyancy, removing depression or melancholy, and hence is of great value in the treatment of MENTAL and NERVOUS AFFECTIONS.

From its exerting a double tonic effect, and influencing a healthy flow of the secretions, its use is indicated in a wide range of diseases.
