AN ANODYNE HYPNOTIC TO REPLACE
MORPHINE.

tie up the secretions are often objectionable. Antikamnia has no such unfavorable effects. As a reliever of neuralgia dependent upon whatever cause, and rheumatism and gout, it is of great value. In the intense pains ever present in the pelvic disturbances of women, cellulitis, pyosalpinx, et al., it is to be preferred over opiates.

In the administration of remedies to relieve pain, the elements of exhilaration and exaltation should be considered. Morphine, opium, Indian hemp, and many others produce such delightful sensations as to make them alluring and dangerous in administration. Such is not the case with antikamnia. It is simply a pain-water, is admirable and acts like magic. reliever, not a stimulant, not an intoxicant; not disposed to arouse day dreams and lift up one away from the carking cares of life, and make him feel that he has entered the heavenly gates, as do some of the so-called pain-relievers. Antikamnia, opposed to pain as it is, carries with it only rest, only tranquil nerves, only absence of pain; and sleep comes, in the majority of cases, quickly and gently.

For a headache, whether congestive or dependent upon a disordered stomach, 10 grains of antikamnia, with 15 or 20 drops of the aromatic spirits of ammonia, well diluted with

It has to a very large extent displaced morphine and various pharmaceutical preparations of opium, and in so doing it has placed the profession and the public generally under a great obligation. The debt of gratitude due to the projectors and manufacturers of this valuable preparation can be surmised only when we take into consideration the remarkable decrease in the victims of the morphia habit made possible by its introduction into practical therapeutics. It has the pain-abolishing and heat-producing qualities of the coal tar compounds of the aromatic series, and shares with them powerful antiseptic effects. It is easily administered, being free from odor and practically also without taste; it agrees with the digestive organs, acting as a sedative and antiferment in the stomach, and after adsorption exerts a marked anodyne action upon the sensory nervous system, and favors sleep without being directly a narcotic. It produces no unpleasant after effects, and there is no danger of forming a habit, as it is only indirectly an hypnotic. In ordinary doses it is free from any toxic or poisoning effects.-Medical Intelligencer.

USES OF ANTIKAMNIA.

Pain, while being conservative, is oftentimes unkind and must needs be modified and controlled. Remedies like morphia which

In painful menstruation, 5 or 10 grains of antikamnia given in a little hot toddy, and repeated every one or two hours until two or three doses are taken, may be relied upon to bring relief.

In the preliminary, nagging first stage of labor, where often sleep and rest are lost for twenty-four or forty-eight hours, 10- to 15-grain doses of antikamnia given as above will produce tranquility and quietude, and often a full night of repose will be secured prior to the onset of the real labor.-Medical Mirror.

BOTH SAFE AND SOUND.

The safest remedy we have to relieve pain is Antikamnia. The safest internal antiseptic is Salol. And the safest tonic is quinine. They are as sure as they are safe. Prescribe the drugs in "Antikamnia, Quinine, and Salol Tablets," containing Antikamnia, 2 grains; Quinine, 2 grains; and Salol, 1 grain.-Food.

TO BREAK UP A COLD.

It is said that a "cold" is a filth-disease.

Then get rid of the filth. Not by eating heartily, and thus feeding the flames, but rather by dieting for a few hours. Take a hot bath at bed-time, or, if in robust health, a hot general bath. Take a saline cathartic, a seidlitzpowder, or a dose of Hunyadi water. Drink a bowl of hot lemonade and go to bed. Then begin to take "Antikamnia, Quinine, and Salol Tablets," composed of Antikamnia, 2 grains; Quinine Sulphate, 2 grains; and Salol, I grain. The aches and pains will disappear, the fever will subside, and you will be saved days of suffering.

Elixir Phosphorus Comp.

The difficulty experienced in dispensing Phosphorus in a safe, accurate, and agreeable form has for many years been the greatest drawback to the extensive use of this valuable remedial agent. In this preparation all of these objections have been thoroughly overcome; it is absolutely reliable, non-irritating, and very pleasant to the taste. Each fluid-dram or teaspoonful contains one one-hundredth (1-100) of a grain of Free Phosphorus held in perfect solution and of assured stability, keeping without oxidation or change for any length of time. It may also be combined with other preparations, such as Tinet. Nux Vomica, Tinct. Ignatia Amara, Tinct. Cinchona Comp., Elixir Iron, Quinine, Strychnia, etc. The quantity of Phosphorus in each teaspoonful being assured to the Physician, he can readily prescribe this Elixir with confidence and advantage to the patient.

Prepared by ROBT. T. YOUNG, Apothecary,

Professor Shoemaker says: "In medicinal doses the action of Phosphorus upon the nervous system is that of a tonic and stimulant. It is useful in nervous debility, neuralgia, sexual excesses, anæmia, paralysis, melancholia, morphinomania, rickets, boils, acne, eczema "-Vide Materia Medica and Therapeutics, vol. ii, pp. 8-10.
