3 Made in Thine image at his birth,
Next to the heav'nly host,

And sov'reign of the new-form'd earth,
Each privilege he lost.

4 Then did the pitying Saviour leave
The glories of the sky,

(Oh love too wondrous to conceive!)
For sinful man to die ;-

5 To die that we, by grace restor❜d,
Might life and glory claim.
"O great Creator, Saviour, Lord,
How excellent Thy Name!

PSALM IX. C. M., D.

To celebrate thy praise, O Lord,
We will our hearts prepare ;
To all the list'ning world thy works,
Thy wondrous works declare
The thoughts of them shall to our souls
Exalted transport bring,

While to thy Name, O Thou Most High,
Triumphant praise we sing.

2 All those who have his goodness prov'd
Will on his truth confide,
Whose mercy ne'er forsook the man
Who on his help relied.

Sing praises, therefore, to the Lord,
From Sion, his abode;

Proclaim his deeds, till all the world
Confess no other God.

PSALM XI. L. M.
(From "The Spirit of the Psalms.")
HEN all bespeaks a father's love,
Oh wherefore, fearful as the dove,
Should we in times of peril flee
To any refuge, Lord, but Thee?
2 In vain the wicked bend their bow,
And seek to lay the righteous low :
Thou, from Thine everlasting throne,
With watchful care regard'st thine own.
3 Thy voice shall seal the sinner's fate;
Just vengeance shall his crimes await;
While the bright beams of grace divine
Shall on Thy faithful servants shine.

PSALM XVII. L. M.

HIS world is full of toil and woe;

THIS

But that bright world to which we go, Hath neither sorrow, pain, nor care:

When wilt Thou, Lord, receive us there?

2 O glorious hour! O blest abode !

We shall be near and like our God;
No more shall sin and sense control
The sacred pleasures of the soul.

3 Our flesh shall slumber in the ground
Till the last trumpet's joyful sound;
Then burst its chains, with glad surprise,
And in the Saviour's image rise.

PSALM XIX. Version 1. L. M,

THE

HE starry firmament on high, And all the glories of the sky, Display thy praise, Almighty Lord, Yet not so brightly as thy word.

D.

(7)

The hopes that holy Word supplies, Its truths divine, and precepts wise, In each a heav'nly beam I see, And ev'ry beam conducts to Thee. 2 Almighty Lord! the sun shall fail, The moon forget her nightly tale, And deepest silence hush on high The radiant chorus of the sky; But, fix'd for everlasting years, Unmov'd amid the wreck of spheres, Thy Word shall shine in cloudless day When heav'n and earth have past away!

PSALM XIX. Version 2. SEVENS.

HEA

EAV'NLY Teacher, from thy ways
Who can tell how oft he strays?
Fill our souls with holy light,
Guide, O guide our steps aright!

2 Cleanse us from the sin that lies
Wrapt within the heart's disguise;
Let us now, by Thee renew'd,
Each presumptuous thought exclude.
3 Let our tongues, from error free,
Speak the words approv'd by Thee;
To Thy all-observing eyes

Let our thoughts accepted rise.

4 While we thus thy Name adore,
And thy sov'reign grace implore,
Heav'nly Teacher, lend thine ear!
God, our Strength, propitious hear!

PSALM XIX. Version 3.

BEH

S. M.

EHOLD! the morning sun
Begins his glorious way;

His beams o'er earth's wide surface run,
And gladden it with day.

But, Lord, thy Word supplies
A brighter, holier light;

It trains the simple to be wise,
And gives the blind their sight.
Teach me to feel its worth,
Its hidden power to see,

And kindle, as it shadows forth,
The glory yet to be.

4 Teach me, with stedfast heart,
That glory to pursue ;
Till joyous from the tomb I start,
And find the vision true.

PSALM XXI. C. M.

(From "The Spirit of the Psalms.")

THE

HE King Messiah reigns on high,
His heart's desire fulfill'd;

His arm hath won the victory,

And man's salvation seal'd.

2 Th' Almighty Father on his head Hath plac'd the victor's crown,

And through the universe shall spread His glory and renown.

3 To endless life and boundless power
His human-nature rais'd,

With God the Father evermore
O let his Name be prais'd!

PSALM XXIII. Version 1. 6 EIGHTS.
THE Lord my pasture shall prepare
And feed me with a shepherd's care.
His presence shall my wants supply,
And guard me with a watchful eye
My noon-day walks he shall attend,
And all my midnight hours defend.
2 When on the sultry glebe I faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant,
In fertile vales and dewy meads
My weary wand'ring steps He leads,
Where peaceful rivers, soft and slow,
Amidst the verdant landscape flow.
3 Though in the paths of death I tread,
With gloomy horrors overspread,
My stedfast heart shall feel no ill,
For Thou, O Lord, art with me still :
Thy friendly hand shall give me aid,
And guide me through the awful shade.
PSALM XXIII. Version 2. C. M.
TY Shepherd is the living Lord,

MY

I therefore nothing need;

In pastures fair, near pleasant streams,
He setteth me to feed.

2 He shall restore and glad my soul,
And bring my mind in frame
To walk in paths of righteousness
For his most holy Name.

3 Yea, though I walk the vale of death,
Yet will I fear no ill;

Thy rod and staff they comfort me,
And Thou art with me still.
