INTRODUCTION.

In presenting the seventeenth annual edition of THE HANDY GUIDE TO PREMIUM RATES, APPLICATIONS AND POLICIES, the Publishers wish to direct particular attention to the large amount of new data presented. The legislatures of 1906 and 1907 in a umber of States were very busy prescribing new laws for the fe insurance companies to observe. Several States prescribed andard provisions for the policies, and one at least made radical changes in the laws which affected the practices of the companies so far as their premium rates and surrender values were concerned. In consequence, the changes made in the data presented herein far exceed those of any previous year. In fact, more than seventy per cent of the information given is entirely new, without taking account of the matter covering organizations listed for the first time. In compiling this thoroughly exhaustive work the utmost care has been exercised in order that the high standard of previous years may be fully maintained, and the vast amount of new data presented makes it an absolute necessity for the equipment of every agent; By the use of a fine quality of imported Bible paper the size of the book has been greatly diminished in spite of an increase of 120 in the number of pages, thereby naturally adding to its usefulness as a work for the pocket?

Owing to the continued increase in the number of companies engaging in the life insurance business, the publishers have included several new organizations, so that the agents throughout the field may be supplied with detailed information concerning every possible competitor. THE HANDY GUIDE for 1908, therefore, contains particulars relating to 127 companies (including four Canadian organizations). This is a much larger number than as ever before been presented, and includes practically every company active in the campaign for business in this country.

During the sixteen years in which this work has been before the insurance field workers its advantages have been highly appreciated, its arrangement and contents having been found admirably adapted to the purpose for which the book is intended. The seventeenth edition is, therefore, presented in the full confidence that it surpasses its predecessors in all respects and continues to be the leading work for the use of the active life insurance agent.

NOTICE TO SUBSCRIBERS.

During 1908 the publishers of THE HANDY GUIDE will issue, at intervals of three months, three supplements, embracing all the latest policy forms, premium rates and surrender values issued by the various companies during the year, thus keeping this work fully up to date in every particular.

These supplements will be supplied to all subscribers at the rate of twenty-five cents each, and in order to insure prompt delivery when issued remittances of seventy-five cents, in addition to the price of single copies of the work, may be forwarded to the publishers. The price of single copies of th supplement to non-subscribers (whose names do not appear c our books as orderers of the publication) will be fifty cents. The first supplement will be issued early in July.

ANALYSIS OF POLICY CONDITIONS.

A valuable companion to THE HANDY GUIDE is ANALYSIS OF POLICY CONDITIONS, also published annually by The Spectator Company. This work presents a thorough analysis of the provisions, privileges, benefits and conditions of the leading policy form of each company in such shape as to admit of ready reference to any particular point. It also gives information on a number of points in the practice of companies not covered by an exhibit of premium rates, values and policies. Another important feature contained in it is a codification of extracts from the non-forfeiture and anti-rebate laws of the States where such legislation has been enacted. No other work is so complete in this important particular. By means of flaps attached to the covers the provisions of the policies issued by an agent's own company can instantly be compared with any other in the book.

THE HANDY GUIDE and ANALYSIS OF POLICY CONDITIONS together will keep every agent in a position to positively determine any question which may arise while soliciting.

ANALYSIS OF POLICY CONDITIONS is bound in leather in the same shape as THE HANDY GUIDE, and sells at one dollar per copy.
