The communication from the Governor, enclosing documents from the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of St. Louis, was taken up, and referred to the Committee on Internal Improvement.

On motion of Mr. Bowlin,

The Committee of the Whole were discharged from the further consideration of resolutions in relation to the amendment of the Constitution of the United States; and said resolutions were considered as engressed, and read a third time and passed.

On motion of Mr. Holloway,

Resolved, That Calvin Gunn be directed to print 500 copies of the titles of the acts of the present General Assembly, in conformity to his proposals for job printing, and deliver the same to the door keeper of this House, on the morning of the adjournment.

"An act to incorporate the St. Louis Perpetual Marine Fire and Life Insurance Company."

Mr. Bay moved,

To amend the bill, by inserting the following at the end of the second section:

"Provided that any future Legislature shall have power to amend, repeal, or alter this act."

Mr. Cravens of Pettis, from the Select Committee to which was referred sundry resolutions proposing amendments to the Constitution of this State. Reported

Message from the Senate by Mr. Bowen.

MR. SPEAKER-There has been introduced into and passed the Senate, a bill entitled

"An act to define the permanent line dividing the counties of Crawford and Pulaski."

The Senate have passed bills from the House, entitled

"An act to incorporate the Paynesville and Mississippi Rail Road Company."

"An act to incorporate the St. Louis Floating Dock and Life Insurance Company.'

The Senate have receded from their amendment to a bill from the House, entitled

"An act to establish a state road from Ste. Genevieve to Caledonia, and from Caledonia to Courtois Mines."

Which is here with returned.

The Senate have rejected

"A bill to provide for publishing a State Map." Also,

A joint resolution from the House, requiring the Judges of the several Circuits, to appoint a Circuit Attorney for each Circuit. Which is herewith returned.

On motion of Mr. Monroe,

The House passed over the previous orders, and resolved itself into a committee of the whole.

Mr. Emmons in the chair, and

After spending some time therein, the committee rose, and their chairman reported

That the committee have had under consideration

nent seat of government; and for the sale of lots, in the City of Jefferson," and have agreed to the same with sundry amendments," also Resolutions, proposing amendments to the Constitution of this state," and report the same with amendments.

Which report was concurred in, and the said bill and resolutions Ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Woodson from the joint committee on enrolled bills, reported as truly enrolled

"An act to encourage the destruction of Wolves," and

"An act to incorporate the Citizens Insurance Company of Mis

souri."

Which were signed by the Speaker of the House, and transmitted

to the Senate.

On motion of Mr. Monroe,

Resolved, That the Governor be requested to lay before this House, at as early a period as practicable, the number of Brigades in this state, and the number of each regiment of each Brigade, as well as the number of each extra-Battalion of each Brigade.

On motion of Mr. Minor,

Mr. Monroe was added to the select committee on the Militia.

On motion of Mr. Speaker,

Resolved, By the House of Representatives, that the commissioner of the permanent seat of government is authorised and hereby required, in the recess of the Legislature, to permit any denomination of professors of the "Christian Religion" to hold religious meetings, and perform public worship, in the Hall of the House of Representatives, until the same is sold in pursuance of law.

Mr. Woodson from the joint committee on enrolled bills, reported that said committce had presented to the Governor for his approval, "An act supplementary to an act, entitled an act, to license Auctioneers, and impose a tax on licenses and sales, approved February 26th, 1837.

"An act to charter the Southeastern Rail Road Company."

"An act to incorporate the Bailey's Landing Rail Road Company," and

"An act to amend an act, entitled an act, to provide for levying, assessing, and collecting the revenue."

Mr. Minor presented the memorial of the Board of Trustees of the Medical Department of the St. Louis University, asking an appropriation of money, in aid of said department of the University, and On his motion,

The reading was dispensed with, and it was referred to a select committee composed of Messrs. Minor, Wright of Marion and Jack

son.

Mr. Cravens of Pettis, from the committee on claims, to which was referred the petition of Jacob R. Steine, late Collector of St. Louis county, asking additional compensation for collecting and transporting the revenue of that county to the City of Jefferson. Also,

the petition of Peyton and Thomas, asking additional compensation for distributing the Laws and Journals of the last General Assembly, asked that said committee be discharged from the further consideration of said petitions.

Which was granted by the House.

Mr. Monroe from the committee on the permanent seat of government, reported

"A bill to reserve from sale, lot No. 588."

Which was read, and

Ordered to a second reading, and

On his motion,

The rule was dispensed with, and

Said bill was read the second time,

Considered as engrossed, and read a third time and passed.
On motion of Mr. Monroe,

The vote of yesterday, adopting a resolution, calling on the Governor for information, relative to the number of Brigades and Regiments in this state, was re-considered, and by leave of the House, he then withdrew said resolution.

Mr. Watts, from the Committee on Printing, reported that Messrs. Chambers and Harris had executed and delivered their bond to the committee, for printing the Journals of both Houses of the present General Assembly, according to the resolutions passed by both Houses, and submitted said bond to the House, which bond was received and accepted, and the report of the committee agreed to; and the bond ordered to be deposited in the office of the Secretary of State.

Mr. Layton, from a Select Committee, reported

"A bill for the relief of William M'Cawley."

Wich was read, and ordered to a second reading, and

On motion of Mr. Alexander,

The rule was dispensed with, and the bill read a second time, and considered as engrossed, and read a third time and passed.

Mr. Persell, from a Select Committee, to which was referred the petition of Lucy Dodson, and others, praying the passage of a law prohibiting the division or sale of the slaves belonging to the estate of James Dodson, deceased, asked that said committee be discharged from the further consideration of said petition, which was graated by the House.

Mr. Smith, of Washington, from the Select Committee, to which was referred the

"Bill to regulate, govern, and discipline the Militia of the State of Missouri."

Reported the same with amendments, which were agreed to. And the bill considered as engrossed, and read a third time and passed.

Mr. Groom, from a Select Committee, reported "A bill for the relief of William Underwood."
