Mr. Monroe from the committee on the Seat of Government, to which was referred so much of the Governor's message, as relates to the erection of a State House, reported,

That the committee have again considered that subject, and had instructed him to report

"A bill to provide for building a State House, and for other purposes."

Which was read the first time, and

Ordered to a second reading.

Mr. Bay from the committee on the Penitentiary, reported that said committee had instructed him to recommend to the House to provide by law for the erection of a Wing to the Penitentiary, in conformity with the original plan of the building-as in the opinion of the committee, the present building will soon be insufficient to contain the probable number of convicts; and also to provide for the erection of three guard Houses to be attached to the exterior walls of the Prison, which in the opinion of the committee would add to the security of the prison, and more effectually prevent escapes.

Mr. Price moved to amend the report by striking out the word "three" and inserting "one" which was rejected.

The question was then taken on agreeing to the report, and carried in the affirmative.

Mr. Bay from the said committee, also reported:

A bill to amend an act entitled "An act, to establish a State Penitentiary, and to regulate the same."

Mr. Young from the Select Committee to which was referred the petition of sundry citizens of Lafayette county, praying that the road leading from Lexington to Warrensburg, may be declared a state road, reported,

"A bill declaring the present county road from the town of Lexington, in Lafayette county, to the county line of Johnson county, by James Greer's, a state road, and for other purposes." Which was read the first time, and

Ordered to a second reading, and

Mr. Minor from the Select Committee to which was referred the petition of sundry citizens of St. Louis county, relative to the school lots of St. Ferdinand, reported,

"A bill concerning School Lots in the town of Ferdinand, commonly called Florisant, in the county of St. Louis."

Mr. Thornton from the Select Committee, to which was referred the petition of Edward M. Samuel and others, reported, "A bill to incorporate the Liberty Rail Road Company." Which was read the first time, and
