Mr. J. Fred Yates, having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected temporary assistant clerk.

Senator Patterson of Washington then nominated Mr. F. C. Middleton for temporay calendar clerk.

There being no further nominations, a ballot thereupon was taken and Mr. F. C. Middleton, having received a majorty of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected temporary calendar clerk.

Senator Mackay then nominated Mr. J. D. Lee for temporary reading clerk, and Senator Smith of Baker and Malheur nominated Mr. M. E. Swann.

A ballot was thereupon taken and Mr. J. D. Lee received twenty-four votes, and Mr. Swann received six votes.

Mr. J. D. Lee, having received a majorty of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected temporary reading clerk.

On motion of Senator Selling, the temporary president was authorized to appoint a committee of three on credentials.

The temporary president appointed Senator Selling of Multnomah, Senator Proebstel of Umatilla and Senator Smith of Baker and Malheur.

On motion of Senator Selling, the senate took a recess of fifteen minutes.

The senate was called to order.

On motion of Senator Selling of Multnomah, the report was adopted.

A committee of two, consisting of Senators Cameron of Jackson and Wade of Union and Wallowa, was appointed to wait upon the chief justice and request him to administer the oath of office.

The committee retired and soon thereafter appeared, accompanied by Hon. Chas. E. Wolverton, chief justice of the supreme court of the state of Oregon, who administered the oath of office. to the members-elect, and a copy of said oath was by each member duly subscribed.

Senator Reed introduced senate resolution No. 1.

SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1.

Resolved, That the senate now proceed to effect a permanent organization by the election of—

First-A president of the senate.

Second-A chief clerk.

Third-An assistant clerk.

Fourth-A calendar clerk.

Fifth-A reading clerk.
Sixth-A sergeant-at-arms.

Seventh-A doorkeeper.

Eighth-A mailing clerk.

And that the president be authorized to appoint two pages.
On motion of Senator Reed, the resolution was adopted.

On motion of Senator Dufur, the senate proceeded to elect permanent officers by roll call.

The first order of business being the election of president of the senate, Senator Mulkey placed in nomination the name of Hon. Joseph Simon of Multnomah county.

Senator Dufur placed in nomination Hon. Bernard Daly of Crook, Klamath and Lake counties.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Hon. Joseph Simon were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Daly of Benton, Daly of Lake, Driver, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling and Taylor-24.

Those voting for Hon. Bernard Daly were: Senators Clem, Dufur, Morrow, Smith, Simon and Wade-6.

Hon. Joseph Simon, having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected president.

Chief Justice Wolverton of the supreme court then administered the oath of office to the president-elect, who duly subscribed his name thereto.

The election of chief clerk being the next order of business, Senator Brownell placed in nomination the name of Mr. S. L. Moorhead of Lane county.

Senator Morrow placed in nomination the name of J. P. Williams of Morrow county.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Mr. Moorhead were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Daly of Benton, Driver, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling, Taylor and Mr. President-24.

Those voting for Mr. Williams were: Senators Clem, Daly of Lake, Dufur, Morrow, Smith and Wade-6.

Mr. Moorhead, having received a majority of all votes cast, was declared duly elected chief clerk.

The next order of business being the election of assistant clerk, Senator Driver placed in nomination the name of Mr. J. Fred Yates of Benton county.

Senator Clem placed in nomination the name of Mr. B. F. Ramp of Linn county.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Mr. Yates were: Senators Adams, Bates,

The next order of business being the election of calendar clerk, Senator Patterson placed in nomination Mr. F. C. Middleton of Multnomah county.

Those voting for Mr. Middleton were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Daly of Benton, Daly of Lake, Driver, Dufur, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Morrow, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling, Taylor and Mr. President-27.

Not voting-Senators Clem, Smith and Wade-3.

Mr. F. C. Middleten, having received a majority of all votes cast, was declared duly elected calendar clerk.

The next order of business being the election of reading clerk, Senator Mackay placed in nomination the name of Mr. J. D. Lee of Multnomah county.

Senator Smith placed in nomination Mr. M. E. Swann of Baker county.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Mr. J. D. Lee were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Daly of Benton, Driver, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling, Taylor and Mr. President - 24.

Those voting for Mr. M. E. Swan were: Senators Clem, Daly of Lake, Dufur, Morrow, Smith and Wade-6.

Mr. J. D. Lee having received a majority of all votes cast was declared duly elected reading clerk.

The next order of business being the election of sergeant-atarms, Senator Harmon placed in nomination the name of Mr. J. S. Purdom of Josephine county.

Senator Dufur placed in nomination the name of Charles Schutz of Wasco.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Mr. J. S. Purdom were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Daly of Benton, Driver, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling, Taylor and Mr. President — 24.

Those voting Mr. Charles Schutz were: Senators Clem, Daly of Lake, Dufur, Morrow, Smith and Wade - 6..

Mr. J. S. Purdom having received a majority of all votes cast was declared duly elected sergeant-at-arms.

The next in order being the election of doorkeeper, Senator Brownell placed in nomination the name of W. W. Smith of Clackamas.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Mr. Smith were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Daly of Benton, Daly of Lake, Driver, Dufur, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Morrow, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling, Smith, Taylor and Mr. President-28. Not voting-Senators Clem and Wade-2.

Mr. W. W. Smith having received a majority of all votes cast was declared duly elected doorkeeper.

The next order of business being the election of mailing clerk, Senator Adams of Marion, placed in nomination the name of Mr. H. H. Humphrey.

There being no further nominations, the roll was called.

Those voting for Mr. Humphrey were: Senators Adams, Bates, Brownell, Cameron, Clem, Daly of Benton, Daly of Lake, Driver, Dufur, Fulton, Haines, Harmon, Haseltine, Howe, Kelly, Kuykendall, Looney, Mackay, Michell, Morrow, Mulkey, Patterson, Porter, Proebstel, Reed, Selling, Smith, Taylor, Wade and Mr. President-30.

Mr. H. H. Humphrey having received a majority of all votes cast was declared duly elected mailing clerk.

Under senate resolution No. 1, the president appointed Frank Hartman and Harry Belt pages.

Senator Mulkey introduced senate concurrent resolution No. 1.

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 1.

Resolved by the senate, the house concurring, That a committee of two on the part of the senate and three on the part of the house be appointed to examine the books and accounts of the secretary of state and report thereon within fifteen days after the adoption of this resolution.

On motion, the resolution was adopted.

Hon. Chas. E. Wolverton, chief justice of the supreme court, administered the oath of office to the officers-elect, who each duly subscribed his name thereto.

On motion of Senator Selling, the senate adjourned to 2 o'clock
